The photo has fueled speculation that the 30-year-old Matildas captain could actually appear on the field at the Paris Olympics in July, despite tearing the anterior cruciate ligament in her knee in January.

Adding to the intrigue, a separate Instagram story from the Matildas on Thursday declared that a ‘big announcement’ is in the works, all of which will be revealed on Channel 10’s The Project from 6.30pm AEDT.

The Chelsea forward tore her cruciate ligament during a training camp in Morocco in early January, seemingly ruling her out of the Olympics.

Her father Roger Kerr spoke for many football supporters at the time when he said it was ‘sad news’.

“It was quite disappointing and upsetting, so we [have] “I’ve had a few restless nights,” he said.

‘I think she’s a little numb. “She had some sort of injured World Cup and now we were all looking forward and Australia was looking forward to the Olympics… it’s sad news.”

It normally takes six to nine months to recover from a torn ACL, but professional athletes often need more time to regain their strength and fitness.

Despite the recent teasing on social media, this means Kerr would have to defy medical history to have any chance of playing for the Matildas in Paris.

Some left-field possibilities have been suggested, such as benching Kerr and possibly bringing her in for a brief cameo if Australia makes it to the medal rounds.

In a recent interview, Kerr admitted she is unlikely to appear at the Games, but refused to rule out the possibility of playing.

“Realistically, the Olympics probably won’t happen, but I’m still trying to push to get there as soon as possible,” she shared Vogue magazine.

‘It’s probably a bit too early [for the Olympics] But I do everything I can every day to be as strong as possible, to be as fit as possible and to play my best football again.’

Away from football, Kerr is accused of racially harassing a police officer during a drunken night out in London in January 2023.

The Mail exclusively revealed that the 30-year-old was charged and entered a not guilty plea on March 4 this year, with a four-day criminal trial in February 2025.

A Metropolitan Police spokesperson confirmed that the incident, which took place on January 30, 2023, was sparked by a dispute over a taxi fare before Kerr allegedly used abusive, threatening or insulting words that caused the officer alarm or distress.
