Blake Lively and husband Ryan Reynolds battled it out for the top spot at box office this past weekend, but the young up-and-coming film couldn’t send the current champ flying.
Lively, 36, and her It Ends With Us put up a good fight, but couldn’t beat the wildly popular Deadpool & Wolverine.
The romantic drama starring actor and director Justin Baldoni grossed a healthy $50 million in its first weekend in theaters, but debuted at number two, while Reynolds’ Marvel adventure narrowly missed out with $54.2 million, according to Cash register Mojo.
Variety reported that this was the last time in more than three decades that a married couple saw their films top the box office.
The last time was in 1990 in Bruce Willis’ Die Hard 2, which featured the romantic drama Ghost, starring his then-wife Demi Moore.

Big names like Oscar winners Cate Blanchett and Jamie Lee Curtis, along with Jack Black and Kevin Hart, couldn’t save the project from critics, who gave it a nine percent approval rating on Rotten Tomatoes. The audience score was a more generous 49 percent.
The film grossed $8.8 million at the box office.
Fifth place went to Despicable Me 4. The animated adventure starring the voices of Steve Carell and Kristen Wiig as the heads of a bumbling crime family continued to captivate audiences, even earning $8 million.
