Ryan Gosling shares ‘odd piece of advice’ co-star Burt Reynolds once gave him and reveals legendary actor seemed to have a crush on his mom

Ryan Gosling shared the strange advice he got from the late Burt Reynolds while promoting his new movie on Jimmy Kimmel Live on Wednesday.

The 43-year-old Canadian actor was asked by 56-year-old Jimmy about his very first film, which he made with Burt, who died in September 2018 at the age of 82.

‘I’m surprised you don’t know. Frankenstein and Me,” Ryan said of the 1996 film.

Jimmy noted that Burt was a stuntman turned actor and Ryan played a stuntman in his new movie The Fall Guy.

Ryan said he was about 13 or 14 years old when he made Frankenstein and Me and Jimmy and asked if he could spend time with Burt.

β€œIt’s complicated,” Ryan said.

‘Because I thought he had a crush on me. I thought he thought there was something special about me. And then I realized that I have a very beautiful mother,” Ryan said, referring to his mother Donna.

β€œOh,” said Jimmy. “So your mother was on set with you?”

‘He was just a little interested. It was like I got a secondary glow. The real shine was for my mother. And I thought, ”oh, this is secondary gloss,” Ryan said.

“How long did it take you to find that out?” Jimmy asked.

β€œI wish I had found out sooner,” Ryan admitted.

Jimmy asked if his mother was flattered by the attention.

β€œMy god, she loved it, are you kidding me?” Ryan said.

Jimmy asked if Burt was friendly.

‘Yes, but you know that. He was friendly. He signed things all the time. He signed a Mean Machine T-shirt,” Ryan said.

Ryan said Burt also told all the kids not to see Deliverance.

‘Of course that’s the first thing we did. We should have listened to him,” Ryan said.

β€œSure,” said Jimmy.

‘He gave me some strange advice. He said, ‘Let me tell you something, boy, don’t spend your whole life on diamonds just to live with a cubic zirconia,'” Ryan said.

‘And what does that mean?’ Jimmy said.

“I was like, ‘I’m 13. I don’t know what those things are.’ ” I do not know what that is. Stop looking at my mother. I’m here,” Ryan said, laughing.

Ryan showed off his stuntman skills as he fought several men on his way to the stage.

He plays veteran stuntman Colt Seavers in the action comedy The Fall Guy, released Friday by Universal Pictures.

The Fall Guys also stars Emily Blunt, Aaron Taylor-Johnson, Hannah Waddingham, Teresa Palmer, Stephanie Hsu and Winston Duke.
