Ryan Garcia claimed he was ‘high as f***’ but not on steroids during his dominant upset over Devin Haney on April 20 at Barclays Center.

The 25-year-old’s claims came after he tested positive for the performance-enhancing drug Ostarine from drug tests conducted before and after the fight.

On Tuesday, Garcia continued to campaign on the falsity of the test results during an appearance on the website Completely tilted podcast with Bob Menery.

“If I had used steroids, I would have been in much better shape,” claimed Garcia, who was 3 pounds overweight. “I literally drank and smoked weed every day – I didn’t stop, not even until the damn day of the fight. I came in there high as f***, and I beat his a**.”

“It was a walk in the damn park,” he continued. “I’ve had tougher fights in sparring, bruh. It wasn’t difficult at all. Even Devin said, “I’ve never been outclassed so easily.” Bro, steroids didn’t help with that, brother.’

After the positive test results came out on May 1, Garcia requested analysis of his B sample, according to a letter obtained by ESPN.

If Garcia’s request is granted but his B sample is still positive, the Victorville resident and his legal team will have to present their case to prove his innocence. Otherwise, he risks a suspension and a fine, on top of having his win over Haney overturned.

Ostarine was banned by the World Anti-Doping Agency in 2008 and placed on the list of anabolic substances in 2022. The New York State Athletic Commission told ESPN last week that it is “in communication with VADA and is investigating the matter.”

“Everyone knows I don’t cheat,” Garcia said in a video posted to X on May 1. ‘Never taken a steroid. I don’t even know where to get steroids. I hardly take any supplements.’

Oscar De La Hoya’s Golden Boy Promotions released a statement saying they are working with Garcia’s team to “determine how this finding came about.”

Garcia defeated Haney three times during the fight to score a majority decision and hand the champion his first defeat. Despite dominating the scorecards, Garcia was ineligible for the WBC super lightweight title at stake due to missing weight.

“You don’t accidentally test a dirty test twice. For two different things,” he added.

After the positive test came to light, Haney appeared on SportsCenter to dispute Garcia’s claims about the results.

‘Who has ever been caught doping and admitted it? I think [Garcia] would have been the first [athlete] in history,” Haney said. ‘Right now it wouldn’t be [rematch] that I would entertain. This man showed his character. He showed that he would do anything to win, including cheating. He endangered my life. So now it goes deeper than boxing with me.”
