The First Lady of Ukraine has called for Russia’s rapist soldiers to be held accountable before an international court during an emotional interview this morning.

In an interview days before the first anniversary of the launch of Putin’s invasion, Olena Zelenska told GMB’s Susanna Reid that the prosecutor’s office in Ukraine has registered ‘150 cases of rape, where the actions of the Russian occupier are documented’.

The youngest recorded victim is just 4 years old, while the oldest is 85.

She said: “Unfortunately, in reality, this number is much higher, so we hope for the support of the international community, with particular attention to a military tribunal for all war criminals who are committing such terrible crimes in Ukraine.”

‘No one expected this war to be so cruel. Animalistically cruel. War is always terrible, but this war is amazingly cruel.

During the world exclusive interview, Zelenska told Susanna that the prosecutor’s office in Ukraine has registered ‘150 rape cases, where the actions of the Russian occupier are documented.’

The First Lady of Ukraine described the horrors of the war and said: ‘There is a lot of work to be done. Many children already need psychological help and sometimes even treatment, particularly those who witnessed the execution of their relatives, children who almost lost their lives along with their mom and dad.”

She revealed that she had received a personal handwritten letter from a British woman, describing it as a “heartfelt gesture” that brought her to tears.

Olena says that her own family has not been immune to suffering: She said: ‘My children are also like other children: when they go to the basement of their school, mine come to the basement with me.’

In addition to describing the situation in Ukraine, and his decision to stay, he also sent a warm message of thanks to the people of Great Britain, our Government and the Royal Family. She said: ‘I can honestly say that I feel my obligation to be here.

‘I feel grateful to be here because leaving Ukraine would not be easy. It would be so much more emotionally difficult to be away from my people when it’s such a pivotal moment in history.

‘Britain, from day one, demonstrated the most sincere and powerful support, and this is truly a great example of leadership.

‘We feel not only the support of the government and the Royal Family… but we also feel the support of the whole country.

‘The safety of our people is one of the most important issues for us and it is giving us this. You are one of the first countries to give us the necessary weapons that we are constantly asking for, for which we are truly grateful.’

A UN report revealed that Russian soldiers gang-raped a 22-year-old Ukrainian mother, sexually assaulted her husband and made the couple have sex in front of them before raping their four-year-old daughter.

The report also details how Russian soldiers carried out summary executions, executions without trial or due process, in the Kyiv, Chernihiv, Kharkiv and Summy regions, the youngest victim being a 14-year-old boy.

In the report, members of the Independent International Commission of Inquiry on Ukraine said they had also documented patterns of torture, ill-treatment and illegal confinement committed in areas occupied by the Russian armed forces, all of which amount to war crimes.

The report details how Russian soldiers raped women and girls in their homes or took them away and raped them in vacant homes, leading some to consider suicide.

In March last year, two Russian soldiers broke into the home of a young family in the Kiev region and repeatedly raped a 22-year-old woman before sexually abusing her husband.

The two soldiers then forced the traumatized couple to have sex in front of them.

One of the soldiers then forced the couple’s four-year-old daughter to perform oral sex on him.

“In most cases, these acts of rape also constitute torture and cruel or inhuman treatment for the victims and for the relatives who were forced to watch,” the report says.
