Troy Deeney has urged Ruben Amorim to brutally sack Ruud van Nistelrooy so he can clean up the ‘s***show’ at Manchester United.

Amorim was officially announced as the Red Devils’ new head coach yesterday but will take charge at Old Trafford on November 11, allowing him to oversee Sporting Lisbon’s next two matches. He has signed a contract until June 2027.

Van Nistelrooy took temporary charge of United following the sacking of Erik ten Hag and will remain in his post for the next three games, having already guided his side to a resounding win against Leicester City in the Carabao Cup.

It is understood that Amorim will look to acquire some of his trusted coaches from Sporting and Van Nistelrooy’s long-term future is therefore uncertain.

But Deeney believes the 39-year-old will need to tear up the backroom team and surround himself with his own staff when he arrives during the international break.

“His stock will rise and he will not be affected by Ten Hag’s tenure.

‘Even if United lose 7-0 to Chelsea, Ruud can say: “It’s not my fault. The players were distracted by the departure of Ten Hag and the new manager.”

‘My only advice to Ruben?

‘Don’t arrest Ruud. You want to clear the decks once you get there, with only your people around you.

‘Only then can you find out what the problems are – and how to solve them.’

Deeney has also warned Amorim that he faces a big challenge at United, especially given the current fitness of the squad and its suitability for his tactics.

He added: “He has a great job.

‘I’m not saying these United boys aren’t fit, but they won’t be nearly fit enough for Amorim. His Sporting teams are taking off.

‘There’s going to be a lot of ups and downs between now and January 1 and then – oh my God – he’s going to have to come out with a broom and sweep the place.

“When you walk into that s**tshow with that ball of yarn to untangle, where do you start? Good luck with that, Ruben.’
