Road House trailer: Jake Gyllenhaal shows off his muscles as he takes on hooligans in Florida in remake of 1980s cult classic starring Patrick Swayze

The first trailer for the Road House remake was released on Thursday morning.

Jake Gyllenhaal stars in the revival of the ’80s cult classic with star Patrick Swayze.

In this new Road House, Gyllenhaal plays Elwood Dalton, who appears to be related to Patrick’s James Dalton.

He’s a former UFC fighter who becomes “cooler” for a dingy bar in the Florida Keys.

Jessica Williams, Daniela Melchior (in the role of Kelly Lynch) and Billy Magnussen (in place of Ben Gazzara) star alongside UFC fighter Conor McGregor.

Earlier this week a new poster debuted.

Jake was seen sitting in a chair with his Hawaiian shirt open, revealing some bloody gashes on his abs and muscular chest.

Jake and Prime Video jointly released the striking new poster on Instagram this Wednesday, with the caption: “Keep cool. Trailer tomorrow.”

‘Keep cool’ was a famous line from the original film, which received a disappointing response in 1989 but has since acquired a devoted cult following.

Patrick’s co-stars included Sam Elliott as James Dalton’s mentor and Drugstore Cowboy actress Kelly Lynch as his love interest.

Acclaimed Broadway actor Ben Gazzara stars as Brad Wesley, the nefarious businessman who becomes the film’s villain.

The soundtrack featured original songs by Patrick, alongside classic recordings such as The Doors’ Roadhouse Blues and Fats Domino’s Blue Monday.

Jake’s character, renamed Elwood Dalton for the remake, has a love interest, played by The Suicide Squad breakout Daniela Melchior.

No Time To Die actor Billy Magnusson, You hunk Travis Van Winkle and veteran Portuguese actor Joaquim de Almeida are also in the cast.

The original film starred Patrick Swayze as New York City bouncer James Dalton, who ends up working at a nightclub in a small town in Missouri.

As he tries to keep his gruesome past shrouded in mystery, he is confronted with the corrupt, violent underbelly of his new turf.

Set to the Florida Keys, the remake is directed by Doug Liman, whose filmography includes Swingers, The Bourne Identity and Mr. & Mrs. Smith includes.

Jake has a long-standing bond with the late Patrick Swayze, having worked with him on the beloved 2001 sci-fi thriller Donnie Darko.

“He was always so loving and sweet to me,” Jake recalled on Good Morning America in 2022 after wrapping production at the new Road House.

“I take that to heart in playing the role and there are some things I take from him, but overall we’ve made a brand new movie and I’m very excited about it.”

He acknowledged that remaking Road House was a huge task, saying: “These are big shoes to fill, but Patrick was a friend when he was here.”

Patrick Swayze died in 2009 at just 57 years old, less than two years after being diagnosed with stage IV pancreatic cancer.

The new Road House will not receive a theatrical release, but will be available for streaming via Amazon Prime on March 21.
