Rita Ora reveals how husband Taika Waititi inspired her new album, which features a ‘wedding song’ based on the playlist during their wedding
Rita Ora has revealed that her husband Taika Waititi was the driving force behind her new album You & I.
That said the 32-year-old British pop star The Sydney Morning Herald this weekend, her New Zealand film director wife brought out her creativity and encouraged her to get more involved in the songwriting process.
“I wanted to tell a story about finding love, but it went deeper than that because to find love you have to find who you are, what makes you happy,” she said.
“You really focus on your emotions instead of just throwing them under the carpet, which is what I usually do.”
Rita was so focused on the album that she was back in the studio the morning after her wedding.

“I booked a session with a producer, Cirkut, and I didn’t want to cancel it,” she says.
“I told him, ‘I’m a little slow because I got married yesterday.’ So we wrote a wedding song. The fact that my brain was a little foggy worked to my advantage. There was no judgement. I was in the moment.’
The resulting “wedding song” – the title track of the You & I album – was inspired by music played at the couple’s wedding, including Eternal Flame, I Wanna Dance with Somebody, Wonderful World, Everlasting Love, Sweet Caroline, Stand by Me and The Way. You’re watching tonight.
“It’s basically our wedding playlist,” Rita told the publication.

Rita and Taika got married at her Los Angeles home in August 2022, with the bride wearing a Tom Ford dress.
The couple tied the knot in an impromptu ceremony they planned in just two weeks with eight people in attendance, after Rita popped the question during a trip to Palm Springs.
Taika revealed, “She introduced me and I said ‘yes’ right away.”

Discussing the ceremony, the director added, “There were about eight people — just close friends and family, and parents on Zoom.”
In January, Rita finally confirmed that she and Taika had tied the knot after months of speculation, describing the marriage as “perfect” and a “special day.”
Rita said, “Yes (I’m married). I’m officially off the market folks. I’ve chosen to keep it more private and more to myself, but with my new video I’m playing on what could have been.”
Rita and Taika started dating in March 2021, before going public with their romance in August and getting engaged in 2022.
