Ricky Gervais to increase security as death threats spark concern – ahead of upcoming UK tour

Ricky Gervais plans to increase his security ahead of his UK tour after receiving death threats following his anti-woke jokes, The sun has revealed.

The English comedian’s team has now made a massive safety overhaul ahead of his upcoming Armageddon UK tour, which kicks off in Cardiff on Wednesday.

The After Life actor and director, 61, had already taken action while on tour in the US – as he was told he had a ‘ring of steel’ during his Hollywood bowl performance for fear of being shot.

The Office co-creator said his live show will discuss topics such as God, Hitler and the culture of transgression.

A television source told The Sun: ‘Ricky has been made aware that threats have been made to his life. They have not shown him his offices, but have told him that very disturbing letters have arrived for him.

Upcoming: The English comedian’s team has now made a massive security overhaul for his forthcoming UK tour Armageddon – which kicks off in Cardiff on Wednesday

“Ricky is very aware of the dangers and he can afford any security he wants so he thought it was a good idea,” the source added.

It seemed that one of the very recent and most significant threats he received came from his comments on his Netflix special show SuperNature – where the comedian was slammed by LGBTQ+ activists for being ‘anti-trans’.

A source also revealed that security combed the arena before the performance and found themselves in the crowd.

Ricky’s concerns also arose after last year’s attack on American comedian Dave Chappelle, who was attacked on stage by a man carrying a replica gun with a knife.

The English comedian won a whopping £1.41 million at the Box Office earlier in May for a single stand-up performance.

The actor took to the stage at the iconic Hollywood Bowl in Los Angeles on May 6 as part of his Armageddon show, which he is currently touring worldwide.

And after thrilling fans at the packed show, Ricky set an all-time record as it was the world’s highest-grossing single performance ever by a British stand-up comedian.

Ricky said of his incredible record, “Learning about this record is the icing on the cake. I was happy enough if it didn’t rain.’

The After Life actor had previously shared a series of tweets about his Hollywood Bowl show, sharing his pride in performing on one of the most “surreal” nights of his life.

He tweeted, “Thank you Hollywood Bowl for one of the most surreal nights of my life. What a location. What a bustle.

“I can’t even imagine what my mom would think if I played the Hollywood Bowl. I hope she would be shocked by the language, tell me I look fat and secretly be proud.

“I wish I’d filmed it now… if only to remind myself it really happened. Mentally.’

The star also took to Instagram to share a photo of the venue at night, captioning the image, “That time I played a packed Hollywood F**king Bowl.”

Ricky’s post received a lot of positive messages from fans, many of whom were at the performance and thanked him for a great show.

Following his success, Ricky will continue to tour Armageddon throughout the year, playing huge shows in the UK, Europe and the US.

He kicks off with a performance at Cambridge’s Corn Exchange before heading to Leeds and Manchester.

He will then take a short break before heading to Vienna, followed by a lot of flying back and forth from the US to the UK with shows in New York, Dublin, Cardiff and Toronto, among others.

The incredibly sold-out tour, which kicked off last year, will conclude in Bristol Beacon in December.
