Revealed: Shocked fishermen tried to shoot killer shark after it decapitated 16-year-old boy off Jamaica

  • Jahmari Reid’s body was reportedly found with his head and left arm bitten off

A fisherman who saw the decapitated body of a teenager after a horrific shark attack off the coast of Jamaica tried to shoot the animal.

According to reports, Jahmari Reid’s body was found headless and with her left arm bitten off.

His father, Michael Reid, was heartbroken on the beach when divers brought his son’s remains to shore.

Now fisherman Christopher Reynolds, who was on the beach with Michael, claims he saw the huge tiger shark in the water near where Jahmari’s body was found. Jamaican Observer defeated.

And he even revealed that ‘all the fishermen went to him and, as they dived to get him… they shot at him, but they couldn’t get him’.

According to local police, the 16-year-old went spearfishing on Monday near the popular tourist resort of Montego Bay.

The high school student disappeared after he entered the water on his own. His battered body was found on Tuesday.

“I can’t believe he went to sea alone yesterday (Monday) and this was the outcome. Sad to know. I feel so bad,” he told Jamaican media.

The taxi driver said that he had often tried to discourage his son from his underwater fishing hobby and that they often argued about his excursion.

Photos from the scene show dozens of shocked residents gathering on the beach in the town of Falmouth on the island’s north coast.

Fisherman Christopher Reynolds added that they hoped to find and kill the shark and recover the boy’s missing, severed head.

According to the president of a local fishing association, this was the first time in recent history that someone had been killed by a shark in local waters.

Fritz Christie suggested the shark may have followed a cruise ship into Falmouth Bay and warned spearfishermen to be extremely careful when large vessels enter the bay.

“What we have to do is make sure that when the ships come, we’re careful about diving. The shark eats the man’s head off, eats one of his hands off. It’s crazy, man,” Christie said.

Falmouth police are reported to be investigating the tragedy.

According to the International Shark Attack File, shark attacks in Jamaica are extremely rare. Since 1749, only three unprovoked attacks have been reported.

The most common shark in Jamaica is the nurse shark. This shark is tame and usually stays near the seabed.

Caribbean reef sharks, tiger sharks, hammerhead sharks and bull sharks have also been seen in Jamaican waters.
