Some Republicans are now pushing the idea of impeaching President Biden over a whistleblower claim that he took cash from a foreigner seeking favorable policies when he was vice president.
“I think that’s a very strong possibility,” said Oversight member Rep. Russell Fry, RS.C. Thursday morning on Fox Business. “I think it’s definitely on the table.”
R-Texas Senator Ted Cruz brought up the impeachment idea on Fox News Wednesday night. “It doesn’t have to be a high crime and misdemeanor,” he said, pointing out that impeachment for bribery is “explicit in the Constitution.”
“The evidence that Joe Biden is complicit in and profiting from this corruption is growing and growing,” he claimed.
Representative Nick Langworthy, RN.Y., told DailyMail.com that if the charges are proven, it is the “handbook definition of a high crime that would require impeachment.”
A whistleblower has against Senator Chuck Grassley, R-Iowa and House Oversight Committee Chairman James Comer, R-Ky. national.
The Republican allegations mark a major update in the Republican ‘influence peddling’ investigation into the Biden family and Hunter’s overseas business deals
Senator Chuck Grassley and Rep. James Comer issued a subpoena to FBI Director Chris Wray on Wednesday demanding the ‘FD-1023 form’
The unverified allegation is the most explosive claim yet from Comer and Grassley, who have devoted significant resources to investigating the Biden family business transactions. But Democrats suggest the whistleblower could have fabricated the plan.
The pair wrote a letter to FBI Director Christopher Wray and Attorney General Merrick Garland saying the whistleblower claimed their agencies had a file “describing an alleged criminal scheme involving then-Vice President Biden and a foreigner with regarding the exchange of money for policy decisions. . It is alleged that the document contains an accurate description of how the alleged criminal scheme was used and its purpose.”
“It’s a very serious allegation,” Grassley told NewsMax on Thursday. I wish I could say I knew it was true or false.”
Comer has issued a subpoena for “all FD-1023 forms, including open, closed, or restricted filings, created or modified in June 2020, using the term “Biden,” including all associated attachments and documents to those FD-1023 forms. ‘
An FD-1023 is where the FBI documents material obtained from confidential sources. The document could obtain allegations from the source that have not been verified.
Maryland Representative Jamie Raskin, leading Democrat on the Oversight Committee, accused Republicans of “recycling baseless claims” that could have come from Rudy Giuliani or Russian agents trying to influence the 2020 election.
“During the same period, Rudy Giuliani and Russian agents sanctioned by Trump’s Treasury Department spread disinformation to disrupt the 2020 presidential election,” Raskin said.
“Given Chairman Comer’s commitment to ‘dismantle’ the FBI, it comes as no surprise that he would rely on these unverified tips to target President Biden in yet another baseless partisan stunt.”
Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene has long called for Biden’s impeachment and said now is the time to move forward with it, and Rep. Andy Biggs told DailyMail.com that he would be “all on board” if an attempt is made to impeach the president.
But the leadership of the oversight committee is not willing to talk about impeachment.
“Chairman Comer and the Oversight Committee are focused on obtaining the FD 1023 document from the FBI to establish the truth and accuracy of the information it contains,” an Oversight spokesperson said in a statement to DailyMail.com. “We will not speculate on the outcome of the investigation and have not discussed impeachment with anyone.”
Iam Sams, White House spokesman for surveillance and investigations, posted a response to Twitter calling the GOP action “baseless” and “politically motivated.”
“For five years now, Republicans in Congress have been lobbying against baseless politically motivated attacks [President Biden] without providing evidence for their claims. Or evidence of decisions influenced by something other than US interests,” he claimed.
That’s because they prefer anonymous innuendo, amplified by the megaphone of their allies in right-wing media, to gain attention and try to distract and distract from their own unpopular ideas and lack of solutions for the issues that the American people really care about,” Sams added in a statement to DailyMail.com
