Republicans kick off investigation that could lead to impeachment of Homeland Security secretary

Republicans Launch Investigation That Could Lead to IMAGINATION of Secretary of Homeland Security Mayorkas, who said he lied 58 times to Congress “blatantly”

  • Representative Mark Green said Mayorkas showed “not understanding what is happening at the border” and that he had “violated or undermined at least 10 laws”
  • When asked specifically about the legal basis for the accusation, Green said that Mayorkas had lied to Congress and failed to do his job of securing the border.

House Republicans are beginning their formal investigation into Alejandro Mayorkas’ “dereliction of duty” as they consider impeaching the Secretary of Homeland Security.

In a press conference on Wednesday, Homeland Security Chairman Mark Green said the secretary had shown “not understanding what is happening at the border” and that he had “either violated or undermined 10 US laws.”

When asked specifically about the legal basis for the accusation, Green said that Mayorkas had lied to Congress and failed to do his job of securing the border.

“Mayorkas has blatantly lied under oath to the United States Congress several times and lied to the American people at least 58 times.”

Green predicted the investigation would end in about 11-12 weeks, but was hesitant to say whether it would end in the pursuit of impeachment.

He said his research has five phases. Once completed, he will hand over the findings to the Judiciary Committee, which will decide whether to impeach.

‘We haven’t even gotten to that word, that process yet. Our goal here is that we start with what you have here, and we’re going to get more information.”

He said he hoped President Biden would fire Mayorkas instead.

“President Biden probably doesn’t know all the things that we’re going to show in this report, and I hope when he hears all this when he sees all of this, he will act responsibly and fix the problem.”

In a report detailing Mayorkas’ “failures,” Republicans noted that there have been 6.1 million detentions at US borders since President Biden took office, plus an estimated 1.5 million more “getaways” who border detection evade.

Green blamed Mayorkas’ undoing of ’89 policies from two previous administrations.’

The House Homeland Security Committee is detaining Trump-era DHS officials on Wednesday.

“Today’s hearing will begin to dig into all the details — the cause and effect of Alejandro Mayorkas’ dereliction of duty,” Green said.

Many had worried about a wave of migrants on the southern border in light of the expiration of Title 42, the pandermic-era policy that allowed for immediate evictions, while Mayorkas insisted DHS had other measures ready to address to secure the border.

Border detentions rose to about 211,000 in April, before the end of the policy – about 20,000 more than in March. Those numbers are still down from December’s 250,000 detentions.
