House Judiciary Chairman Jim Jordan revealed he is investigating the recent termination of a journalist whose most recent work looked into Hunter Biden.
Catherine Herridge, a veteran national security and intelligence reporter, was among hundreds of CBS employees fired last week by parent company Paramount.
Herridge was reporting on investigations into the Biden family when the network seized her personal notes after her resignation, a move that SAG-AFTRA, the CBS union, called “completely inappropriate” and “highly unusual.”
Some of the seized materials reportedly contained confidential source information.
“We’re trying to dig into this,” Jordan told a buzzing crowd at the Conservative Political Action Conference (CPAC) on Friday. “This is scary what’s happening to Catherine.”
Rep. Jim Jordan, R-Ohio, chairman of the House Judiciary Committee, told the crowd at CPAC that he would “dig deeply into” ending veteran journalist Catherine Herridge’s firing from CBS News

The union representing Herridge blasted CBS News for confiscating her files after firing her
“What CBS has done just doesn’t make sense, and it’s something we would look into in more depth.”
SAG-AFTRA, the union that represents Herridge, released a statement Thursday saying it “strongly condemns CBS News’ decision to confiscate Catherine Herridge’s reporter notes and research from her office, including confidential source information.” ‘
The investigative journalist had recently covered the House of Representatives impeachment inquiry into President Joe Biden, special counsel Robert Hur’s report on his handling of classified documents and the criminal charges against Hunter Biden.
In an earlier statement to DailyMail.com, CBS denied the claim that it had improperly seized Herridge’s files and said it had returned the materials to her.
“What happened here looks very wrong in my opinion because they took everything,” Jordan told the crowd.
“These are her sources, her information,” he continued, “that just doesn’t happen when you’re talking about the press.”
Hunter Biden’s business dealings have been called into question during recent congressional hearings into his father’s impeachment inquiry
Jordan, who also serves on the House Oversight Committee, has held closed-door hearings with many of Hunter Biden’s colleagues, including his uncle James Biden
Citing sources, the New York Post alleged that Herridge had been pursuing a story related to Hunter Biden’s abandoned laptop, and that she had encountered “roadblocks” from management over her reporting on the First Son.
Jordan called CBS’s seizure of Herridge’s documents “a further infringement by people on the left” on First Amendment rights.
Herridge, meanwhile, is in the middle of a high-profile lawsuit over her refusal to release sources for articles she wrote in 2017.
A judge has ordered her to make public sources used in a series of articles about a Chinese-American scientist who was investigated by the FBI but never charged with wrongdoing.
The case is still ongoing.
As for Hunter Biden, “he’s testifying in our deposition next week,” Jordan said.
“We’ll have some questions for him,” he added.
CBS News did not return a request for comment on the Judiciary Chairman’s investigation.
