Republican OFFICIALLY threatens FBI director Wray with contempt for refusing to hand over document
House Oversight Committee Chairman James Comer threatens to despise FBI Director Chris Wray before Congress for failing to turn over an internal document that Republicans say shows President Joe Biden was involved in a “criminal” scheme involving a foreigner .
The internal unclassified FD-1023 form apparently describes an “arrangement” for an exchange of money for policy decisions, Republicans have said.
If Wray fails to submit the record by May 30, the commission said it will initiate contempt of Congress proceedings.
In a letter to Wray Wednesday, Comer wrote that he is also narrowing the scope of the subpoena for the document by specifying two additional terms that can be referenced in the record: “June 30, 2020” and “five million.”
The House Oversight Committee released a new memo specifically outlining the Biden family’s ties to Romanian “influence peddling” and a web of LLCs while Biden was vice president
“The FBI’s refusal to provide this one document is obstructive,” he wrote.
The FBI’s mission is to protect the American people. Releasing confidential source information could potentially jeopardize investigations and put lives at risk,” the FBI told DailyMail.com in a statement.
“The FBI remains committed to cooperating with Congressional oversight requests on these and other issues, as we have always done.”
Comer staff, who are leading the investigation into “influence peddling” by the first family, met Monday with agency officials who refused to hand over the file.
The meeting came Monday after House Speaker Kevin McCarthy said over the weekend that the FBI was about to hand over the potentially damning document.
McCarthy said he spoke with with Wray last week and believed the Republicans would “get this document” after their talk.
βI explained to the director that we will do everything in our power, and [that] we have jurisdiction over the FBI – that we have the right to see this document,” McCarthy said.
However, Wray has yet to hand over the document – missing an initial deadline to comply with a May 10 subpoena.
The agency’s latest backlash also comes after a second IRS whistleblower came forward claiming he was sidelined by the Hunter Biden investigation when he spoke about the president’s son receiving preferential treatment.
The agent, who has not been identified, says he was fired last week without explanation after working on the Hunter Biden investigation since 2018, according to documents sent to congressional leaders by DailyMail.com on Monday.
This is the second whistleblower to report on the matter in recent days. According to documents, he informed Congress last week about the backlash he was experiencing for acting as a whistleblower and alleged unfair retaliation.
He emailed senior IRS Commissioner Daniel Werfel and several other officials last Thursday claiming he had been ousted for raising concerns that the Justice Department acted “improperly” in its handling of the investigation into the son of the president.
His complaint comes days after the Justice Department removed the entire team investigating Hunter Biden’s tax returns, according to attorneys representing a first-time oversight whistleblower.
The House Oversight Committee has accused 10 members of the Biden family β including Hunter and Hallie β of being involved in ‘shady’ business deals that took advantage of the family name
“The information provided by a whistleblower raises concerns that then-Vice President Biden may have engaged in a bribery scheme involving a foreigner,” Comer said.
Grassley, R-Iowa, and Comer, R-Ky., revealed on May 3 that a whistleblower had made astonishing claims about the document, which they say outlined the plan involving Biden, when he was vice president, and an unnamed foreign national.
Grassley said that while the FBI has not provided the document, they have offered a “matching process” that indicates the “document is genuine.”
Iam Sams, White House spokesman for oversight and investigation, called the GOP subpoena for the document “baseless” and “politically motivated.”
βFor five years now, Republicans in Congress have been lobbying against baseless politically motivated attacks [President Biden] without providing evidence for their claims. Or evidence of decisions influenced by something other than US interests,” he claimed.
