Sabrina Ionescu is only in her third season in the WNBA and already has etched her name in the league’s history books. Saturday night Ionescu became the first woman in WNBA history to record 500 points, 200 rebounds and 200 assists in a single season.

Ionescu broke the record with an assist on the opening possession of the New York Liberty’s 76-62 loss to the Phoenix Mercury to teammate Crystal Dangerfield .

Cappie Pondexter and Candance Parker are the only other two players in WNBA history to have even come close to reaching these numbers  with the both reaching 500 points, 150 rebounds and 150 assists in a season. More importantly both have of these women have long been solidified as two of the greatest players to ever step foot on a WNBA court.

Even if you were to lower the threshold to 400 points, 150 rebounds and 150 assists, the list still only expands to Lindsay Whalen and Alyssa Thomas solidifying the prestigious group that Ionescu’s name now resides in.

This is also not the only record Ionescu has broke after becoming the first woman in league history record a 30-point triple double, recording her third career triple-double tying the legendary Parker for most triple-doubles in league history. 

Ionescu also set the Liberty’s franchise record for most assist in a game when she recorded 16 of them coincidentally also in a game against the Mercury. This made her only the fourth player in WNBA history with 16 assist in a single game joining Courtney Vandersloot, Sue Bird and Ticha Penicheiro.

Throughout her short career Ionescu has put the ability to impact the game in multiple ways that made her one of the most popular players in women’s basketball before she even stepped on WNBA court on full display.

Coming into Saturday night’s game, she was averaging up 17.5 points, 7.1 rebounds and 6.4 assists per game. The five-foot-11 guard is currently the only player to rank top-15 in the league in all three of these statistics. 

Ionescu’s career had originally gotten off to a rough start after suffering a grade 3 ankle sprain in only her third professional game. The injury would rule her out for the remainder of her rookie season and plague her the following season as well. 

 Now fully healthy however the former No.1 overall draft pick is reminding everyone just how good she is, and she’s only scratching the surface.

Despite Ionescu’s historic season the Liberty have struggled this year and now have a record of 13-19 following Saturday’s loss. They currently sit ninth in the league but remain firmly in the playoff picture
