Real estate agent details the signs that could help you spot a ‘SECRET ROOM’ in your home
A Michigan real estate agent has described the signs she sees that can help you spot a “secret room” in your home.
Lauren Rockel, a real estate agent based in Grand Rapids, admitted that “secret rooms are one of my absolute favorite things to find when showing houses.”
She showed an example of a hidden corner behind a cupboard in a home’s bathroom – which, worryingly, also offered a direct view of the inside of the shower.
“I was showing this house, turned the corner and saw some hinges on the outside of this built-in closet,” Lauren explained in a TikTok video.
Lauren Rockel, a real estate agent in Grand Rapids, Michigan, revealed a “secret room” she found in a house, with the entrance hidden behind a bathroom cabinet
After identifying visible hinges on the outside of a cabinet, Lauren discovered the entrance to the room, which she speculated was used for storage.
However, to her discomfort, she realized that the ‘secret room’ had a glass wall that looked directly into the inside of the shower.
The tempered glass wall of the shower (as seen at right) turned out to act as a window looking into the shower from the secret room
Lauren admitted that discovering secret rooms in her ads was one of her favorite things
‘So of course I had to give it a tug. And indeed, it is a secret room, probably a storage room, but a secret room nonetheless.’
After the entrance, the room took a sharp turn to the left, straight to a glass wall.
“But look how creepy this is!” the broker added.
She then demonstrated how someone in the hidden room could see directly into the shower through cubes of tempered glass that doubled as a panel enclosing the shower.
Viewers of the post shared a mix of interest and unease about the hidden space.
‘My reactions: “Oh, cool!” … “Oh no,” one person wrote, to which Lauren replied, “Absolutely the same.”
‘It was so cool right up to the window to the bath,’ agreed a second.
“Um… that’s not a ‘secret room’ that predates the era of secret cameras,” someone else suggested.
Viewers shared a mix of reactions to the hidden room which, with the window overlooking the shower, seemed to serve as a voyeur’s paradise
“I always thought someone was hiding there watching me,” another admitted.
In a second example Lauren recently shared, she had found yet another hidden room, strangely enough also connected to a bathroom.
“I’m here to show you another secret room, also in a bathroom,” she shared, adding, “This one is way more secret than the last one I posted.”
She demonstrated how in the medicine cabinet above a toilet, a small latch appeared on the bottom shelf, tucked into the corner.
“You open it up and here’s a little built-in storage above the toilet. There’s a little lock here,” she noted.
‘What are you doing here, you bastard?!
In a second example, Lauren revealed yet another secret room off the bathroom, with an even harder-to-find entrance
The real estate agent demonstrated how a latch on the bottom shelf was the clue that led her to the existence of the secret room.
The second room Lauren highlighted was much less creepy than the first example, with this one filled with paintings, books and a cot
Viewers once again took to the comments to speculate on the nature and strange placement of the secret room in the bathroom
“I pulled it a little, and look! Another secret room in a bathroom. Very weird!’
“Not sure if the bathroom regularly has some space behind this wall or something? Where there is almost nothing and people turn them into storage areas or secret rooms,” she speculated about the strange micro-trend she had come across.
‘But there’s definitely someone hanging around here. I mean, there’s a cot, there’s books, there’s art.
‘There is even a lamp on the wall, so you can sit back and read comfortably in your bathroom.
‘I really like that there is a built-in cupboard that you have to crawl through and also climb on top of a toilet to get to it.
“You could be hanging out here to escape the kid or something.”
Viewers once again took to the comments to speculate on the use of the room.
“Creepily placed panic room?” one offered.
‘Secret reading nook! shhh!’ a second speculated.
“I feel like I would definitely fall into the toilet,” a third admitted – while Lauren admitted: “I almost fell out of the tiny stall when I came out.”
