A young woman has been told to ‘flee’ her relationship after sharing a series of ‘red flag’ texts from her much older boyfriend.
The 21 year old woman Posted on Reddit to ask if her 31-year-old boyfriend’s reaction when she got new glasses was a little off.
She had decided to buy glasses with a thicker frame, but her partner of four months doesn’t like ‘textures’ and is strongly against the new glasses.
He also ‘banned’ her from wearing jeans because they ‘turned them off’.
In the texts, the man says the glasses would “make him pout,” “not want to kiss her” and “push him away.”
People were shocked by the series of messages
He explained that he doesn’t normally date women with glasses, but hers are “so thin” he doesn’t even notice them.
“If you got new ones, bigger or fatter, it would definitely push me away,” he wrote.
Adding: ‘If you were to get an extra pair they would have to be at least the same size as your current one, otherwise I would get worried, feel sad and put off and we would say goodbye to something stupid, or I would taking them off every time I was with you.’
The stream of texts ended with “Dad doesn’t really like big frames.”
The message thread went viral and people warned the young woman that she should try to leave the relationship.
“He sounds controlling, I was in a relationship like that when I was younger and I didn’t leave fast enough,” one woman said.
Another added her thoughts: “This is one of the weirdest text convos I have ever read. That guy is literally whining that his girlfriend wearing glasses will give him anxiety and that he’s in his 30s.”
‘This may seem like just a pair of glasses, but these are actually so much more than that. He gives you an ultimatum about something you need medically. We obviously don’t know what the rest of your relationship with him is like, but to be honest, we don’t need to. He already explained it himself,” one woman said.
And men said the conversation thread made them uncomfortable, too.
He sent a dozen messages explaining that he hates glasses
“Technically, a conversation is two people talking, right? That’s five pages of scary and okay,” one man said.
‘I am a 31 year old man. I don’t know a 31-year-old man who talks like that and I don’t think you should know him either.”
Others couldn’t understand the words and phrases he used when he expressed how uncomfortable the glasses would make him feel.
“Don’t forget it makes him pout,” someone laughed.
“Spamming to get his (non-existent) point across really pleases me,” said another.
A third added: ‘Why does he sound 14.’
The young woman shared more messages that have since been deleted – which only added to the case against her partner, with some suggesting something far more sinister than a simple ‘red flag’.
“He treats you like a child and acts like a child at the same time. I don’t know the details of your relationship, but to answer your original question, this isn’t a red flag. It sounds like a freak trying to take advantage of a young girl. Please be careful. Good luck to you,” one man warned.
She responded with “okay” after he explained, “Daddy doesn’t really like big frames,” following his monologue on the matter
‘His last text ended with ‘Dad doesn’t like big frames’. This guy is an absolute creep and an absolute loser. He is completely taking advantage of OP and manipulating OP because he knows she is young and vulnerable. It’s actually quite alarming,” said another.
A third said: ‘In four years, when your brain has fully developed, you will look back on this relationship and have an illuminating moment of realization. Make the future proud and cut off all contact.’
