Raygun has broken her silence after her disastrous performance at the Olympics.
The 36-year-old university lecturer kept a low profile due to her activities in Paris, where she became an overnight sensation and posted thousands of memes on social media.
But she has also become the target of intense online hate, with many questioning her selection for the Australian team.
Raygun made a brief statement on social media shortly after her performance, in which she failed to win any of her three fights. In a video she posted to her Instagram page on Thursday, she spoke extensively about the match and the reactions that followed.
“Hi everyone, Raygun here,” she said in a post on her Instagram page. “I want to start by thanking all the people who have supported me.
“I really appreciate the positivity and I’m glad I was able to bring some joy into your lives. That’s what I was hoping for.
‘I didn’t realize that that would also open the door for too much hate, which has honestly been quite devastating.
“Even though I went there and had fun, I took it very seriously. I worked really hard to prepare for the Olympics and I gave it my all. I really did.
‘I feel honoured to be part of the Australian Olympic team and to be part of breaking’s Olympic debut. What the other athletes have achieved is simply phenomenal.’
In regards to the allegations and misinformation going around, I would like to ask everyone to please refer to AOC’s recent statement, as well as the posts on Ausbreaking’s Instagram page and WDSF’s Breaking for Gold page.
More to come.
