Rachael Finch was alarmed on Saturday after discovering strange marks on her back after a massage.
The 34-year-old former Miss Universe Australia appealed to fans for help via Instagram Stories, uploading a series of videos showing off her strangely marked back.
‘Okay, this is a bit messy. I went and got a massage because I did something to my back and all the pain is in my neck,” she explained.

‘OMG. I am in shock. Is that normal for a massage? Like, what the hell?
Rachael later speculated that the marks were caused by a gua sha tool, an angled stone used to promote circulation by scraping the skin.
‘Okay, this has a bit of a message. I went and got a massage because I did something to my back and all the pain is in my neck,” she explained.
This traditional Chinese technique often results in broken capillaries causing small amounts of bruising.
Red or purple bruises created by this technique may take a few days to a week to heal and may be tender during this time.
‘[My massage therapist] I used this gua sha tool. I’m thinking it’s the gua Sha tool that did it. It didn’t feel difficult. it was like a normal massage,’ he laughed.

Fans responded immediately, sending Rachael links online that verified the marks were from the gua sha procedure.
Thanking her fans for their help, Rachael then uploaded a post that read: ‘Love you guys so much. You are always on it!! Few people have sent me this!’
