Queen Charlotte: A Bridgerton Story focuses on the titular monarch’s rise to power and prominence in her early days of reign as the Queen of the United Kingdom.

The show consists of past and present storylines intertwined to tell her story.

The one in present-day Bridgerton is set in 1817 and follows the aftermath of the death of the royal heir, Princess Charlotte.

As she mourns, the Queen – played by Golda Rosheuvel – pressures her children to marry and produce another royal heir.

The other storyline – set even before that in 1761 – tells of the marriage between a young Queen Charlotte – played by India Ria Amarteifio – and King George III.

The spinoff, according to the synopsis, “delves into the past as it explores the monarch’s long marriage to the king” and “the way her racial identity influences her experience and her country.”
