A pro-Putin doctor who famously waved the skull of a ‘dead Ukrainian’ fighter on stage in a sickening stunt died today after being shot in the head.
Igor Mangushev, 36, had been seriously injured in hospital for several days after what his wife denounced as an act of “attempted assassination” on Russian-controlled territory.
He died around 6 a.m. from injuries sustained in the hitherto unexplained shooting on February 4.
The sinister ultranationalist activist and propagandist-turned-fighter was seen in sickening footage onstage in August brandishing the skull of an Azov fighter declaring: “We are alive and this guy is already dead.”

The shooting of Mangushev, also known as Bereg, has been seen as a likely warning to his ‘associate’ Yevgeny Prigozhin, head of Wagner’s private army and one of Vladimir Putin’s closest cronies.
This theory of a ‘proxy attack’ was voiced by leading Russian expert Mark Galeotti, who said: ‘I think we can safely describe this as a coup.’
He said: “This could be a warning, or removing a pawn from the board, or a sign that Mr. Prigozhin’s more thuggish opponents feel that he is weakened enough to be able to move.”
There was no immediate suggestion that Mangushev was shot in an act of revenge by Ukraine.

‘Then he died. And they shot him with his own shot to the head.
“This happened, of course, not at the front… Recently, Mangushev has collaborated with Prigozhin and Wagner PMC.”
Igor Mangushev claimed that the skull belonged to a soldier of the Azov regiment killed in Mariupol.
Over the weekend, Mangushev’s wife, Tatiana Azarevich, posted a video saying he had been shot down at point blank range far from the front lines.
She claimed that she did not receive proper medical attention and that Russian authorities had failed to investigate the shooting.
The doctors had told him that “the shot was fired at close range, at a 45-degree angle to the back of the head, from top to bottom.”
It was an “assassination attempt” or an “execution,” he said.
Igor Mangushev is believed to have fought in the Ukraine after the invasion of Russia.

She denied claims that he was in Wagner’s force, led by Prigozhin, but serving in the regular Russian army.
“He is an active duty soldier of the Russian Army, captain of the 4th Brigade of the 2nd Army Corps of the 8th Army of the Russian Armed Forces,” he said.
A video shows the couple vacationing in Lebanon in November.
Mangushev, 36, was the leader of a pro-Russian political movement with ties to the FSB security service.
In his deranged tirade in August, Mangushev declared: ‘Why can’t there be any reconciliation?
‘Ukraine must be un-Ukrainian. The Russian lands of Novorossiya must be returned.
‘We are not at war with people of flesh and blood. We are at war with one idea: Ukraine as an anti-Russian state.”
On his Telegram channel, Mangushev openly called for the killing of civilians.
“We will burn their houses, kill their families, take their children from them and raise them as Russians,” he posted.
