The trip to Australia marks the Danish royal family’s first official visit to Australia since 2013, although Mary made a “secret” trip to Melbourne in 2021 for her 50th birthday.
The visit this time is a private trip, which means that she is not in Australia in an official capacity.
A statement from the royal household said: “In December, the family of the Crown Prince will travel on a private Christmas holiday to Australia to celebrate the holiday with the family of Her Royal Highness the Crown Princess.”
“It’s been five years since the Crown Prince together with his four sons last visited the Crown Princess’s homeland.”

The royal family is expected to spend Christmas with the Donaldson family in Tasmania, where Mary was born.
The family is believed to be staying at Government House in Tasmania, where they resided during their last visit.
They did, however, spend this week in Sydney, during which time the family was photographed at Sydney’s Bondi Beach out for a walk with Mary’s best friend and bridesmaid, Amber Petty.

Mary’s mother-in-law, Queen Margaret, 82, and her youngest son Joaquin have been involved in peace talks after the monarch announced he would strip his four children of their titles (Princess Mary and her family in the photo with Queen Margarita)
This trip is likely to be a welcome distraction for Mary and Frederik, who have been plagued by drama in the royal household.
Mary’s mother-in-law, Queen Margaret, 82, and her youngest son Joaquin have been involved in peace talks after the monarch announced she would strip her four sons, Prince Nicholas, 23, Prince Felix. , 20, Prince Harry, 13, and Princess Athena, 10, of their royal titles, which he claimed had ‘damaged’ them.
The heir to the throne Frederik and the four children of his wife, Princess Maria, are not affected by Margrethe’s decision, as they are direct descendants of the future king.
Joachim, 53, and his second wife, Princess Marie, 46, mother of their two youngest children, have said their relationship with Frederik and Mary is “complicated”.
Mary’s husband, Frederik, recently spoke publicly for the first time since their mother, Queen Margrethe II, announced that she would strip Prince Joachim’s four children of the titles of prince and princess.
Heir to the throne, Frederik had remained silent since the announcement, but broke his silence to say: “It is sad to see how affected you have been by the decision.”
The love story between Princess Mary and Prince Frederik has been well documented; the couple met in a Sydney bar and Tasmanian-born Mary moved to the northern hemisphere to be with Frederik (the couple pictured at Queen Margrethe’s 50th birthday earlier this year).

She met her husband, Crown Prince Frederik of Denmark, by chance at the Slip Inn pub in Sydney during the 2000 Olympics.
After their meeting, Fred, who was in Australia to support the Danish Olympic sailing team, asked Mary for her phone number and a romance blossomed.
They were in a long-distance relationship for a year, with Frederik taking secret trips Down Under before Mary moved to Denmark to study Danish at the Studieskolen in Copenhagen in 2001.
In early 2003, Frederik’s mother, Queen Margrethe, publicly acknowledged the relationship, and the couple announced their engagement at Amalienborg Castle later that year, on October 8.
