Fox has chosen not to renew hit drama Fantasy Island for a third season, the network announced on Tuesday.
The final episode of Fantasy Island drew 1.8 million viewers and a 0.2 rating in the demo.
The premise of the series, the first season of which will premiere in 2021, follows “People who enter with a desire, but are ultimately reborn within themselves through the magical realism of Fantasy Island,” according to a IMDB synopsis.
A network statement said, “We were very pleased with Fantasy Island’s fun and escapist creative, which we had hoped would get a lot of attention from viewers.
“Sony Pictures Television is an important partner of ours and we look forward to working with them on Accused, Alert: Missing Persons Unit, Doc and the upcoming Universal Basic Guys/Hoagie Bros. animated series.

The series was a contemporary version of the classic TV show that aired from 1977 to 1984.
Set in a luxury resort, it starred Roselyn Sanchez as Elena Roarke, a descendant of Mr. Roarke from the original series.
Teri Hatcher and James Denton teamed up again as a married couple in the second season of Fox’s hit series.
The Golden Globe winner and The Good Witch actor both notably starred in the hit ABC mystery drama, Desperate Housewives, as Susan and Mike Delfino, and reunited briefly in 2021 to appear in the Hallmark movie, A Kiss Before Christmas.
Teri and James were cast to star as a married couple, named Dolly and Dutch, who decided to take a trip to Fantasy Island to shape the “next chapter” in their lives with their children, grown and relocated.
Other talented cast members who appeared on Fantasy Island included Roselyn Sanchez, Curb Your Enthusiasm actress, Cheryl Hines, Lucifer star Rachael Harris, and actor John Gabriel Rodriguez.
The original Fantasy Island debuted in 1977 and starred Ricardo Montalbán as Mr. Roarke and Hervé Villechaize as his assistant Tattoo.
There was also a 1998 reboot starring Malcolm McDowell as Mr. Roarke.
It comes after Fox announced it would renew 9-1-1: Lone Star, but bump the original series 9-1-1 to ABC for its seventh season.
The shows – the first two dramatic shows of the network’s 2020-21 season – are created by Ryan Murphy, Brad Falchuk and Tim Minear (who is the showrunner on both), with 9-11 targeting emergency responders in the City of Angels .

Set in Austin, Texas, it stars Rob Lowe, Liv Tyler, Ronen Rubinstein, Sierra Aylina McClain, and Jim Parrack.
Fox Entertainment president Michael Thorn called the shows “two of the strongest and most thrilling dramas on television” with “mind-boggling, edge-of-your-seat magic” in a statement Monday after overtime.
According to The Hollywood Reporter, the procedural programs were the network’s highest-rated scripted programs in the past TV season.
9-1-1 claimed a spot in the top 10 for adults aged 18-49 with an average rating of 2.4 and 10.48 million viewers, the outlet reported, citing a week’s delayed viewing.
