The mother of a baby boy who was badly burned in an attack by a stranger in a Brisbane park last month has revealed police will not share key information with her.
The woman and her son were picnicking in Hanlon Park, in the city’s southeast, on August 27 when a stranger approached them and reportedly threw a thermos of hot coffee over the child before fleeing.
The nine-month-old baby suffered severe burns to his face, upper body and arms and has undergone seven operations at Queensland Children’s Hospital.
The 33-year-old man left Sydney airport on August 31 using his own passport, just 12 hours before police confirmed his identity.
However, police have withheld basic information about the investigation, such as the man’s nationality and where he fled to, from the baby’s parents.
“It’s a little frustrating… I just want an update from the police,” the mother, who asked that she and her son not be named, told the Brisbane Times on thursday.
‘At this point I don’t have any confidence in him because I don’t know what country he’s from, what exactly they’re doing or where they are in this process.
“If we get an update, we might feel a little more confident.”
The mother of a baby boy (pictured) who was seriously injured in an attack by a stranger last month has revealed that police refused to share key information with her.
The mother had previously criticised police for not informing her and her partner about what was happening.
“They know his name and what country he’s from, but they haven’t told us yet. It’s incredibly frustrating,” she said on the Kyle & Jackie O show last Friday.
She said she felt that releasing the man’s identity would hinder the investigation.
“Releasing this information would somehow jeopardise the case because they have to work with the country he is in to extradite him back to Australia,” she said.
‘I don’t know how it works. Every time they talk to me, I don’t understand what they’re saying.
“I just want justice. I want to know all the information, but they won’t give it.”
After the attack the suspect ran away to the Apostolic Church of Queensland in Annerley, where he changed and then took a car to ride with someone to the city centre.
The boy underwent his seventh surgery on Tuesday and his mother hopes he won’t need any more.
She said he is in good spirits, has recovered significantly from the attack and is “walking, crawling and smiling.”
“You wouldn’t even know he was injured like that because he’s just so resilient and strong. It hasn’t stopped him from doing anything at this point.”

During the last press conference on September 9, police said they were investigating whether the suspect was “sleeping outside” at the time of the alleged attack.
A GoFundMe page set up to help the family with their medical and other expenses had raised nearly $190,000 as of Thursday evening.
Police say no new information about the case can be released publicly.
“Police will not be commenting further due to ongoing investigations,” a police spokesperson told Daily Mail Australia.
