PLAYER RATINGS: Noni Madueke pips his Chelsea team-mates to player of the match award as FIVE West Ham players are given terrible 3/10 mark

Chelsea continued their hunt for a European spot by handing West Ham five points at Stamford Bridge on Sunday afternoon.

Cole Palmer, Conor Gallagher and Noni Madueke all scored in the first half for the Blues as they looked to build on Thursday’s win against bitter rivals Tottenham.

Nicolas Jackson grabbed a brace in the second half to extend Chelsea’s lead over the Hammers in the Premier League.

David Moyes’ side look set to end their season in a whimper as the Blues continue to pick up key points in their bid to move up the league.

Chelsea (4-2-3-1)

Djordje Petrovic-7

Brilliant save to deny James Ward-Prowse from scoring a consolation free-kick, but thankful Jarrod Bowen could find the crossbar not once, not twice, but three times.

Trevo Chalobah – 8

Defensively good again, especially when he came up against the energetic Mohammed Kudus. Played as a right back this time, after starring as a central defender against Tottenham. Versatile.

Thiago Silva-8

Chelsea fans showed their appreciation for the 39-year-old Brazilian ahead of his summer departure, but this was further proof that Silva can continue to perform at the top level.

Benoit Badiashile-8

A few hard tackles were launched, which led to applause from Pochettino. Although Chelsea were grateful for the woodwork on a few occasions, Badiashile and Silva made for strong partners.

Marc Cucurella-8

Good to see Cucurella playing with so much confidence and moving from left back into midfield. Starting to show why Pep Guardiola wanted him for Manchester City in 2022.

Moises Caicedo-8

Caicedo was there to beat West Ham’s opposition as he won possession before setting up Jackson for the Chelsea striker to complete this 5-0 hammering.

Conor Gallagher-8

Slammed his volley into the bottom corner for Chelsea’s second goal, before hitting the crossbar as he hoped to add another. It will be astonishing if this midfield machine is sold this summer.

Noni Madueke-8.5

Selfless in setting up Jackson to score Chelsea’s fourth goal, having already scored the third himself. The performance radiated positivity all around. My player of the match.

Cole Palmer-8

I gratefully accepted the gift of a gaping goal to kick off this demolition after terrible defending against West Ham. Some of his butt balls belonged in a museum.

Mychailo Mudryk – 7.5

Confidence is pouring out of Mudryk, which is great to see. Just a shame he couldn’t get a goal or assist in his efforts.

Nicolas Jackson-8

Forever put themselves in good positions and got their reward in the second half, scoring after Madueke’s display of unselfishness and then finishing his one-on-one so coolly.

Mauricio Pochettino-8

Another perfect result for Chelsea in their quest for a European place. Pochettino will have enjoyed the team spirit that accompanied this 5-0 victory.

Westham (4-2-3-1)

Alfonso Areola – 5

Might have done better with the first goal after getting the hand, but could do little to prevent Chelsea’s subsequent attack. If he hadn’t produced a few decent saves, the deficit could have been even bigger.

Vladimir Coufal-3

A tough afternoon from start to finish. Carless in possession and too slow to get back into position when his team lost the ball. Gave Mykhailo Mudryk far too much freedom on the left wing and was lucky the striker didn’t punish him as much as he should have.

Kurt Zouma – 3.5

Not a pleasant return to his old club. Accidentally scored the first two goals with a poor clearance for Cole Palmer’s strike and a mistimed tackle for Conor Gallagher’s volley. Things went a little better in the second half, but the damage had already been done.

Angelo Ogbonna-3

Made his 200th appearance for West Ham but looked like a player with far less experience. Couldn’t get Nicolas Jackson under control and let Gallagher go for the second goal. Was beaten time and time again when Chelsea played balls behind the back line.

Emerson-3

Another player who had a miserable return to Stamford Bridge. Given Noni Madueke’s runaround and was caught napping too many times, including for the fourth goal. In the second half he missed a great chance to pull a goal back.

Tomas Soucek-3

He might as well have played in defence, he was so deep. He had to move further up the pitch to support Edson Alvarez in the first half and James Ward-Prowse in the second. He criminally gave the ball away for the fifth goal, which summed up West Ham’s performance.

Edson Alvarez-4

Chasing shadows in the first half as Moises Caicedo and Gallagher dictated play but received little support from those around him. One of the players who could have been hooked at half-time and might have felt a little heavy because he was the one to withdraw at the break.

Jarrod Bowen-6

Without the woodwork a hat-trick could have taken place, with the striker hitting the crossbar twice in the first half and once in the second. He continued to try to get his team onto the field, but received little support.

Lucas Paqueta-3

Much of the game passed him by and he was frustrated most of the time he was on the field. Picked up his 13th yellow card in all competitions and his 10th in the Premier League with a wild tackle in the first half. Before the end limped with an injury.

Mohammed Kudus-5

Was the only other player besides Bowen who looked half-threatening in the build-up, but too often his runs and dribbles came to nothing. Went out of the game in the second half and didn’t see much of the ball.

Michael Antonio-4

Had very little support up front but couldn’t get the ball to stick when it came into his feet. Thiago Silva let Thiago Silva go from the corner far too easily for the third goal, with the defender getting a free header to set up Madueke for the finish.

SUBS: Ward-Prowse (for Alvarez, 45) – 5, Ings (for Antonio, 70) – 5, Cresswell (for Paqueta, 76) – 5
