PLAYER RATINGS: Classy Martin Odegaard pulled the strings and Kai Havertz shone – but one Gunners star ‘struggled with the pace’ in the 3-0 win over Bournemouth

  • Bukayo Saka and Leandro Trossard scored the two goals to beat Bournemouth

Arsenal emerged victorious from their Premier League clash with Bournemouth on Saturday afternoon, beating The Cherries 3-0 at home.

The Gunners also paid tribute to young Arsenal fan Daniel Anjorin with a round of applause after the 14-year-old was killed in a sword attack in east London.

Bukayo Saka opened the scoring in the 45th minute from the penalty spot before Leandro Trossard extended their lead in the 70th and Declan Rice closed the scoring in stoppage time.

However, it was Arsenal captain Martin Odegaard who pulled the strings throughout the match.

Here, Mail Sport’s Isaan Khan has assessed the hosts’ performances as they continue their charge towards the Premier League title.

ARSENAL (4-3-3):

DAVID RAYA: 6.5

It seemed like a quiet game for him until the second half. Was lucky that Antoine Semenyo’s goal was disallowed due to a foul on him in the build-up. That was soft.

AM WHITE: 6.5

He couldn’t use his guile at corners because Bournemouth had done their homework and chased him away from the goal line. Some nice passes forward.

WILLEM SALIBA: 7

Made a mistake at the back after 17 minutes that could have been costly. But was otherwise very solid in defensive matches.

GABRIEL: 6.5

Saved Saliba by making up for his mistake at the back. A screamer of a goal was disallowed for offside.

TAKEHIRO TOMIYASU: 7

Solid rendering. Semenyo struggled to get past him. Gives Arsenal that solidity at left back, because he is defensive-minded.

MARTIN ODEGAARD: 8.5

Pulling strings everywhere. After 38 minutes, Kai Havertz put a good cross in front, which should have resulted in a goal. Havertz also provided an unreal ball in the second half.

THOMAS PARTY: 6

Had trouble with the pace in the final stages, but a fair performance.

DECLAN RICE: 8.5

Great spatial awareness to set up Leandro Trossard’s goal. Made every effort to get into forward positions, which contributed to his defensive duties. Finally a goal.

BUKAYO SAKA: 7

Received a terribly high challenge from Ryan Christie, which left a bad impression on him. He got up, scored a penalty and stayed involved in the match.

KAI HAVERTZ: 8

Was involved in many of Arsenal’s best runs. Whether that was connecting the game, shooting on goal or trying to trap others.

LEANDRO TROSSARD: 7

He scores again. Calm throughout the match, but when opportunities arise he doesn’t waver.

Manager- MIKEL ARTETA: 6.5

His team should have scored more in the first half to reduce the pressure late on, but took control of the match towards the end.

Referee – DAVID COOOTE: 5.5

The decision to award Havertz a penalty was marginal. The challenge on Raya, which ruled out Bournemouth’s goal, was soft.
