Plane passenger reveals how she got ‘petty revenge’ on fellow traveler who kept ‘violating her privacy’ by reaching across her to close window shade

A plane passenger has revealed how she sought ‘petty revenge’ on a fellow flyer who kept reaching over her to lower the blinds without asking.

The unnamed passenger took to Reddit to rant about the woman sitting next to her in the middle seat, explaining how she tried to take control of the window despite being in the seat next to it.

The jetsetter’s story reignited the ongoing debate over airline etiquette – just days after one airline passenger was left horrified by a couple on a flight and another became enraged after leaning her feet on a fellow traveler’s seat.

In a Reddit thread titled ‘Small revenge‘, she berated the anonymous woman on her flight for ‘invading his privacy’ – adding that she made sure to tell her how she felt at the end of the flight.

She captioned the message: β€œThe person next to me on a plane kept violating my personal space.”

‘I flew into the window seat because I like looking out the window. The woman sitting next to me reached out several times to close the sunshade. She never asked me, she just reached straight in front of me to close the shade. I immediately opened it again and a few minutes later she reached over again to close it.

‘It was a domestic short-haul flight at noon, so there was no reason to need darkness in the middle of the day. And absolutely no excuse for violating my personal space multiple times without asking, acknowledging, or treating me like a human being in any way,” she explained.

Hoping that the woman in the middle seat would stop fiddling with the window, she turned on the reading light, pointed in her direction and started reading.

‘So I grabbed my book and turned on the reading light, even though there was plenty of natural light coming through the open window for reading. Then I positioned my hands so that my watch would reflect the reading light directly into her eyes.

“I read like that for an hour, wiggling my hand the whole time so the light would shine back and forth over her eyes, which would be super distracting and annoying,” she added.

When the flight landed, she made it very clear that she did not appreciate her attitude and behavior during the flight and snapped back.

She said: ‘Once we landed and she took off her headphones, I turned to her and said, ‘Next time you fly, book a window seat if you want to operate the window. Or at least treat me like a human and ask me before You violate my personal space. What you did is incredibly rude.”

‘She looked so offended. And of course she walked two miles an hour. As a city walker, it was easy for me to get ahead of her, but once we got to the moving walk, I immediately stopped for her. I did the same on the escalator to the curb before dropping her off all the way to my ride.”

People on the internet flooded the comments section and ran to her aid while punching the other woman.

One person said: ‘I’m with you. As far as I’m concerned, the person sitting by the window determines the shade.’

Someone else wrote: ‘Agreed. Also just very simple to ask if someone can close it or partially close it. That is not necessary in any way, but a simple question is already polite.’

Another user added: ‘Absolutely, unless the sun is absolutely blinding you. In that case, just ask politely. The sense of entitlement that so many people have today is shocking.”

One user commented: ‘Window may control the window. Aisle has more space. Middle gets the armrests.”

Another user said: ‘In what universe does someone touch the window, let alone reach over you multiple times without asking? Seriously, I think people leave their brains at home when they travel, it’s just mind-boggling.”

This isn’t the first time pilots have made waves over airplane etiquette.

Just a few weeks ago, a frequent flyer caused a stir after demonstrating a dangerous travel hack that involved wearing her seatbelt around her ankles in an attempt to be “more comfortable” during her flight.

In the past, many passengers have also wondered whether you should change seats while traveling if someone asks you to.

In December, a frequent flyer issued a PSA to fellow travelers about changing seats after experiencing a nightmare involving having to move five times when he reluctantly gave up his seat to another passenger.

The Unknown Man Took to Reddit to Share His Seat Swap Story That ‘Permanently Changed’ [his] I’m thinking of being nice and switching places with someone someday.”

Another frequent flyer previously revealed she refused to swap her window seat with an ‘entitled’ passenger who wanted to sit next to his wife.

The unnamed woman took to Reddit to share how she refused to move to a middle seat on an 11-hour flight from New York to Cairo, Egypt, so that the man sitting next to her could sit next to his wife.

The anonymous woman shared her story on the social media platform as a way to rant about the man on the website Entitled people subreddit, prompting others on the internet to criticize the man for asking someone else to switch to a lower quality seat so he can be happy.

The denial comes months after a man sparked a furious debate when he refused to give up his first-class seat for his boss, despite using his own credit card points to do so.

In the past, DailyMail.com’s Jaci Stephen even gave her opinion, confessing that she “absolutely refuses” to switch seats, no matter how angry the passenger who wants to switch may get.
