Philippe Clement insists his stuttering Rangers team can still win the league despite their latest title loss in Dundee.

A 0-0 stalemate in Wednesday night’s rescheduled match at Dens Park made it one win from the last five Premiership games for the faltering Ibrox outfit.

Critical of his team’s performance in the 3-1 defeat to Ross County on Sunday, Clement believed Rangers would win all three points against a tenacious Dundee side challenging for Europe.

Clement’s side are now three points behind arch-rivals Celtic with five games left to play.

Insisting that Rangers can still do it despite a run of two wins in their last eight games, Clement admits the light blues may need to win all five.

‘I still believe that. I may have been the only one in Glasgow who believed that in October, probably the only one in the whole city who believed that.

‘It’s now six months later and if we win all our games, the chances of that are very high. I think that’s already a big step forward and I believe in these players, this group, because I’ve seen what they’ve already done this season. They can do it again.

“I said when we won the games, I said the same thing that I would watch the end. Okay, you guys point out the rankings a lot. I know we might have to win five games to do that. We still control our own destiny.

‘Of course it’s frustrating, because of course you want to win. You can see that the team gives everything for that. There was only one team that deserved to win tonight, when you look at the ball possession and the chances. It’s frustrating when you have those things and you don’t have the points.”

Booed from the pitch by a traveling support of 4,000 fans, Clement appealed to Rangers diehards to support their team ahead of Sunday’s Scottish Cup semi-final against Hearts

‘They have to stay with the team. That’s super important.

‘It’s winning together and losing points together. I know that as a fan you have emotions, especially after the match.

‘But they have been great in recent months and helped the team through some difficult moments. I also expect that in this situation. ‘

As he addressed fresh allegations of mental fragility, Clement shot down suggestions his players could be feeling the pressure.

‘No, I do not think so. I don’t think it has anything to do with that. Tonight we were the only team that deserved this result in possession of the ball, including in terms of opportunities.

‘But you have to put the ball against the net.

‘And sometimes you also need a little luck.

‘I know from journalists, for fans, that sometimes they only look at the result.

‘It’s not easy against a team that plays man-making all over the pitch and follows you… even when you go to the toilet.

“But those aren’t excuses.”

Chasing fifth place in the league and success in European football next season, Tony Docherty disputed his counterpart’s claim that Rangers were the only team that deserved to win the match.

‘You saw the match and I completely disagree with that.

‘We have achieved results which have been a reward for the focus shown and I thought Rangers had a lot of possession tonight but I never thought they would trouble us.’

Amadou Bakayoko was denied the only goal of the match in the first half due to an offside flag, and Docherty added:

‘I think Scott Tiffoney should have scored from the free kick in the first half when Bakayoko was offside.

“So the icing on the cake would have been to get the win, but I felt our play, both in and out of possession, deserved a clean sheet against a very talented Rangers side with huge motivation.”

‘I thought it was another fantastic performance by the team.
