Collingwood legend Peter Daicos has achieved much in his decorated football career, but he has revealed how the AFL almost denied him a heartwarming moment on the field with his daughter that he still cherishes.
“As an individual, after retiring I had the opportunity to run with my daughter at the MCG,” Daicos said in the jungle during the filming of I’m a celebrity… Get me out of here!
“I asked if I could do it and the AFL said no.
“I told my wife (Colleen), just break up with me, just give her to me. And when I was halfway through, she handed Maddie over.
“There’s a picture of me running around with Maddie… and she looks like Superman with 35 on the back.

After his VFL debut in 1979, Daicos played 250 games for Collingwood, scoring 549 goals.
“Then it became common for players to take their children with them as part of their retirement.”
Daicos added that he feels fortunate to have been able to fulfill his sporting dream with the Magpies – and that he also felt his ‘life was fulfilled as a father.’
After his VFL debut in 1979, Daicos played 250 games and scored 549 goals.
Dubbed the ‘Macedonian Wonder’, the clever striker was inducted into the Australian Football Hall of Fame in 1999 and was also Collingwood’s best and fairest player twice, in 1982 and 1988.
Daicos had two more children that Magpies fans love in equal measure: brothers Nick and Josh.
The siblings won an AFL premiership last season – as did their old man in 1990 – to cement themselves as club legends at Collingwood too.
Josh, 25, started playing senior footy in 2017, while Nick, 21, followed in 2022.
