And an unexpected bonus of the Disney movie reboot is that fans rediscovered a 1998 cover of Kiss The Girl performed by Peter Andre at the height of his music career.

Rushing to social media after The Little Mermaid remake released, one fan asked, “Twitter please — anyone other than me must remember the Peter Andre cover version of Little Mermaid’s Kiss The Girl since my group chat doesn’t and I’m afraid I was the only one who grew up listening to this…#TheLittleMermaid’.

Followers quickly responded, tweeting, “Yeah, that’s the version that was on my Disney’s Greatest Hits CD.”; It’s real and it was a decent version’

‘Yes, I do’; ‘a certified bop tbh’; “Oh god my sister and I saw him sing this live on a beach in Rhy.”

Meanwhile, the highly anticipated, live-action remake of The Little Mermaid has scored mixed reviews ahead of its release, with critics decrying both the “unfortunate” remake and its “realistic” depiction of animals, while praising Halle Bailey’s Ariel.

Halle also revealed how she broke down watching videos of kids gleefully reacting to her role of Ariel in the live-action movie The Little Mermaid.

The actress, 23, discussed the black portrayal in the film during an interview with Glamor magazine.

During the chat, Halle touched on the emotional videos of young girls seeing a black woman as a Disney princess and how she managed to maintain her own identity while filming for the remake.

When asked about the videos, Halle said, “When I first saw those, I just cried. I sobbed uncontrollably. The fact that these babies look at me and feel the emotions that they feel is really humbling, beautiful.”

She compared the feeling when Anika Noni played Rose Tiana in The Princess and the Frog in 2009, saying, “I know how much of that movie changed my whole outlook on life.” Wow, this is possible. Black princesses are possible.

She added: “We deserve to occupy these spaces as well.”

Halle discussed how the glam team tried to make her maintain her own identity while playing the character, previously portrayed as white.

Her hairdresser Camille Friend dyed Halle’s roots red and wrapped her locks with hair in the same shade to give her Ariel’s iconic look.

She said: ‘[Ariel still] has red hair because that’s a very iconic part of her, but I really admired the fact that because I’m a black woman and I have locs, [the producers] wanted to incorporate that into Ariel’s look.

“They’re both women of color, so I felt very comfortable. They know how to take care of me and my hair and makeup. I’ve been on sets before where that wasn’t the case.’

Halle said, “I really hope I put my own stamp on her character by showing more of her vulnerability.”

“I felt I could identify with her growing up in a big family and with older sisters to guide you, and with a father who is very protective and overbearing at times but loves so hard.”

The Little Mermaid will be released on May 26.
