I took a ferry when I visited Perth – nobody told me what I’d be in for when I stepped foot on board

A young woman has shared her unexpected and terrifying ferry experience after documenting the journey to an island off the coast of Western Australia.

Jacquie took the ferry from Fremantle to Rottnest Island with friends, but the ride was so rough that water splashed violently against the windows as the boat crashed violently into the waves.

The usually peaceful and picturesque 25-minute service turned into a ‘terrifying’ experience for those on board.

Jacquie explains in a TikTok video jokingly correlated the choppy ride with that of the North Sea between Britain and Denmark.

Footage shows passengers remaining calm as the ferry bounces up and down on the waves.

‘Who was going to tell me that the ferry in Perth goes across the North Sea?’ Jacquie wrote.

The rocky journey left many shaken and others claiming the ferry ride had made them seasick before.

‘I visit once a year and throw up every time! I don’t get seasick anywhere else,” one person wrote.

Another said that when she used the service it was so rough that the children were crying and the boat was ‘shaking’.

“There were people vomiting about it when I went last year,” said a third.

“I used to go to Rottnest once a year and once I was on the point where it was open the waves were so big,” added another.

The short video has since been viewed a whopping 3.6 million times.

After sharing a 'terrifying' video on TikTok, many were shocked by the choppy journey. Others claimed that the ferry ride had made them seasick before.

However, others gave sensible advice and suggested visiting the island on a clear day

“Just pick a good day and you’ll be right,” someone wrote.

‘I live in Perth and most of the time things are fine. The journey is only 25 to 30 minutes anyway if you go from Fremantle, mostly it’s just fun,” said another.

‘Wait the fairy goes to Rotto (sic) through the North Sea?’ one wrote, but the other clarified and said, “No, it’s a joke.”
