The 35-year-old actor kicks off the creepy teaser by saying, “Hello, you.”

He then steps onto the screen in a black cap and what looks like a workers uniform, a thick beard sprouting from his face.

“I’m not the amiable bookstore manager in New York. Or the store clerk in LA, or the loving husband in the suburbs. No, not anymore,” he says, referring to his actions in previous seasons.

“Let me introduce myself,” he says with a slight English accent. The wall behind him reads ‘Hello Professor Jonathan Moore’, on top of the screen.

“I went through a little sophistication crossing the pond,” he says, sipping a teacup. “And by living in London I’ve been able to bury the past if you like.”

“The days of unrequited love and longing are over,” he says when Tati Gabrielle’s Marienne, who successfully escaped his death grip in the past, appears on screen.

He promises the audience that he’s focused on his work as a professor, though on one frame he’s eerily over the shoulder of a new character named Kate (Amy-Leigh Hickman).

More new characters appear on screen, including his colleague Rhys (Ed Speleers), who also appears to be a professor, and Nadia (Charlotte Ritchie).

“Unfortunately, with friends in high places, there are usually others trying to climb that social ladder,” he adds as party animal Adam (Lukas Gage) and Lady Phoebe (Tilly Keeper) dance together. “Some may eventually fall or, shall I say, be forced to their social death.”

‘The question is: by whom?’ he says, indicating that he may not be as committed to his education as he claims.
