Paula Abdul shared in an exclusive interview with DailyMail.com about her standout tap dance performance at the Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade.

The pop icon and dancer, 60, set social media on fire when in November 2022 she performed an energetic skit of her hit song Straight Up aboard a float while dressed in a sequin catsuit.

The star’s performance — in which she was accused of lip syncing and “fake tap dancing” — drew mixed social media reactions with some explosive “budget performances.”

Others wrote, “There’s something out of sync here though… come on.” Not that hard to figure out!, “She’s pretending.”

Another wrote: ‘Wow lip sync AND toe sync at the same time. #Talented.’

Others praised the star saying, “Right, people on Twitter hate Paula Abdul, she’s just living her best life,” while another wrote, “She makes it look easy, doesn’t she?” So cool!’

Paula said, “That was a bucket list moment for me. Ever since I was a little girl I always watched, I mean I always watched the Macy’s Thanksgiving Day parade.

“I was the kid my parents said, ‘Paula, get out of your room, the parade is over.’

“I’d hang over my windowsill because I was sure they’d come marching down my street. So I stayed out there for hours. That was really nice, and then being able to do my residencies in Las Vegas.”

The iconic choreographer also waxed lyrical about the powerful effects dance has on the “psyche of every human being” and how she remains in great shape at 60.

The star said: ‘I will always do that. I always say my home away from home is a dance studio. I’m just grateful to have it in my life all these years… it’s not like sports, it’s just pure joy.

“It changes the mind and psyche of every human being and it changes your life for the rest of your life. I like to see people who are always afraid to dance, start dancing and then work out a little bit, and it’s like, where has this been all my life?’

The star also revealed that she was “getting ready to do some tour dates” as she opened up about future plans.

Abdul famously began her career, at age 18, as a cheerleader for the Los Angeles Lakers and she was promoted to chief choreographer before The Jacksons discovered her.

The Emmy award-winning choreographer went on to dance for Janet Jackson’s music videos for What Have You Done for Me Lately, Nasty and Control before launching her own singing career.

Abdul’s debut studio album, Forever Your Girl (1988), would go on to become the most successful debut album in history at the time of its release, reaching number one on the Billboard 200 chart.

It also set a record for the most singles from a debut album to reach number one with four; Upright, forever your girl, cold-blooded and opposites attract.

She would later experience a career resurgence when she landed a job on American Idol in 2002 – a role she would keep until 2009.
