Paul Gascoigne has admitted he wants Rangers to beat Tottenham in the Europa League this season after being angry at being forced to pay for tickets by his former side.
Gascoigne spent four years at Tottenham after signing for the Newcastle club in a then British record £2.2 million contract.
The midfielder enjoyed a stunning season in 1990-91, scoring 19 goals in 37 games in all competitions.
This included his famous free-kick in the FA Cup semi-final at Wembley as Spurs beat arch-rivals Arsenal 2–1 before beating Nottingham Forest in the final.
Gascoigne had agreed to join Lazio for £8.5 million that summer to ease Tottenham’s financial problems, but tore his cruciate ligaments making a dangerous tackle in the final.

He spent the following season on the sidelines before joining Lazio for a reduced fee of £5.5 million.
Gascoigne returned to British football three years later with Rangers, where he won two Scottish Premier League titles, the Scottish Cup and the League Cup in three seasons.
When asked who he would back when Rangers and Tottenham meet in the Europa League at Ibrox in December, Gascoigne explained why he would back the home side.
“When they’re at home it’s definitely difficult,” Gascoigne said SportsCasting UK.
‘At Rangers I was welcomed in every way possible and at Tottenham I asked for some tickets and they said, ‘That’s £400 each.’ I thought, wow, with everything I’ve done for that club, you know?
‘When I left Tottenham I got them a lot of money when I signed for Lazio and when I went to Lazio I put in my contract that Tottenham had the first option to bring me back and they didn’t, so I was a a little angry. that, considering the teams I could have gone to.

“I made the right choice going to Rangers, the fans were fantastic, they love me there. I didn’t like playing on stages there because I speak for an hour and they start singing for 55 minutes.
‘If they play Spurs I think I’m a Rangers fan.’
Gascoigne has featured at both clubs in recent years, most notably for a legend Tottenham team in a test event at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium in 2019.
He had appeared as a half-time guest at Wembley during Spurs’ spell at the national stadium a year earlier.
Gascoigne was again seen in a Rangers shirt in a match to mark Ibrox’s 150th anniversary in 2022.
