Patrick Stewart bids a fond farewell to Jean-Luc at a Star Trek: Picard finale screening

Patrick Stewart says goodbye to the beloved Star Trek character he played for 36 years – Jean-Luc Picard – during a final screening of Star Trek: Picard.

The 82-year-old actor rocked a dapper look at the red carpet screening, held Wednesday night at The Grove in Los Angeles.

The screening took place just hours before the season 3 finale – and the series finale – of Star Trek: Picard is made available on the Paramount Plus streaming service.

The outing also comes nearly a month after Stewart admitted he nearly turned down the role of Jean-Luc Picard for Star Trek: The Next Generation, which debuted in 1987.

Now, nearly four decades later, the iconic British actor is bidding farewell to the character as Star Trek: Picard draws to a close.

Stewart stepped out wearing a black turtleneck under a slate blue coat for his red carpet appearance.

The actor also rocked black dress pants and completed his look with white sneakers for the event.

Stewart was classically trained at Britain’s Old Vic Theater School in the United Kingdom and in 1966 became a member of the Royal Shakespeare Company.

He was known for his theater work in the UK, which almost led to him turning down the role that made him a star – Jean-Luc Picard.

Stewart happened to be in California, “lecturing and speaking at universities,” and it seems Star Trek creator Gene Roddenberry heard about it.

“I was visiting California to lecture and speak at universities and I got a call from my Hollywood agent who I had never met,” Stewart said.

“He said, ‘I have two questions… what were you doing at UCLA last night and why would Gene want to see you this morning?’” Stewart recalled.

“Then it seemed improbable and improbable. It was a six-year contract. I said, “No, I have theater commitments. My agent said, ‘You’ll be lucky if you make it through freshman year,'” Stewart continued.

Stewart was joined on the red by several of his co-stars, including Michael Dorn, who played Worf in the Star Trek franchise.

Also on the red carpet was Jeri Ryan, who played Seven of Nine, who was all smiles in a black minidress.

She accessorized hoop earrings and a gold bracelet while clutching a tiny clutch on the red carpet and completed her look with tan pumps.

Jonathan Frakes and Gates McFadden, who played William Riker and Doctor Beverly Crusher, posed together on the red carpet.

Brent Spiner, who played Data in Star Trek: The Next Generation, also hit the red carpet in a black jacket, white shirt, black pants and boots.

LeVar Burton, who played Geordi LaForge in Star Trek: The Next Generation and Picard, also hit the red carpet.

He posed solo and also with his daughter Mica Burton on the red carpet at the star-studded event.

The final episode of Star Trek: Picard will be available on Paramount Plus on Thursday, April 20.
