Patrick Mahomes insisted the Kansas City Chiefs will seal the historic three-peat Super Bowl next February in New Orleans.

Mahomes and the Chiefs won their second straight championship against the San Francisco 49ers earlier this year, and a victory in next season’s title game would be the first three-peat of the Super Bowl era.

The Green Bay Packers’ trio of NFL titles from 1965-1967 was the last three-peat in American football history, coming just before the first Super Bowl.

Mahomes also revealed that the winning touchdown thrown to Mecole Hardman in overtime was not designed with the receiver as the primary target. Still, the 49ers defense left him wide open.

The intent of the play was a kick pass to Jerick McKinnon to try to win the game. Then Mahomes saw Hardman open with only the end zone and a second straight Super Bowl victory in front of him.

Hardman’s winning score was a play called “corndog,” in which a receiver pretended to intend to cross the field and then shuffled back in the direction he came from.

That play also featured Kadarius Toney in Hardman’s spot for a five-yard touchdown against the Eagles in last year’s Super Bowl.

Mahomes has vowed to lead the game for a touchdown in a third straight Super Bowl.

Who will be the target recipient for that dream-worthy third straight Super Bowl corndog touchdown?

Hardman is a free agent and Toney has fallen out of favor with the Chiefs after a few missteps late last season.

There’s always Travis Kelce waiting in the wings, who will no doubt have a lot of eyes on him.
