ESPN’s Pat McAfee announced that his father-in-law has passed away suddenly.
McAfee addressed the situation on his television show with a monologue in memory of his wife’s father, Bob.
“I couldn’t run the show with this because information was still being told by my wife and her family to friends and people close to her family,” McAfee began.
“But now that I’ve been cleared, yesterday was a day that is obviously a day that will be remembered forever in our family because my father-in-law passed away unexpectedly after the show ended yesterday in a hospital here in Indianapolis, Indiana.
‘He was in hospital for an infection and we were told on Friday that he would probably be discharged on Sunday.

“They figured it out, and he was going to be fine. So we all had high expectations and incredible optimism.
“And yesterday, literally as the show was ending, my wife called me and said I had to go to the hospital because there was an emergency.
“So I went there and what my wife and her mother, her aunt and everyone in her family saw happen was that her father was a bad guy and tried to kick some ass and inevitably lost his fight on this particular day.
‘When something blinds an entire family like that, it can obviously be incredibly devastating.
‘My wife is a daddy’s girl. She even has a bear tattooed on her body because she calls her father Papa Bear. She has quotes from her father all over her. Last night was obviously a very difficult night for our family.
“It was a beautiful memory of, and thankfully, my wife and her mother with her father, the last thing they said to Bob, who was a wonderful man, was, I love you.
“I think this is a nice bit of perspective and a moment to say to everyone, Hey, tell your people you love them. You literally have no idea what’s coming. It could literally be the last time you see someone when you see them.
McAfee has been married to his wife since 2020 and welcomed their first child in 2023
“A lot of people tell us that our show helps them escape and get away from things. Well, that’s what it is for me today, and I can’t thank you all. My wife and her mother, I love you.”
It is not clear how old Bob was and no obituary has been made public at the time of publication.
McAfee and his wife became engaged in February 2019 and married on August 1, 2020.
They have since welcomed their first child together, a daughter, on May 4, 2023.
