A survivor of the Highland Park parade mass shooting who was vacationing in Nashville has been enraged over US gun control after a woman opened fire at a private elementary school on Monday.

Ashby Beasley, from Illinois, a survivor of a mass shooting, and was visiting a friend in town when the ordeal occurred this morning.

Authorities confirmed that six people, three children and three adults, were killed after the 28-year-old gunwoman opened fire at The Convent School in Tennessee.

The shooter was killed by police around 10:27 a.m., bringing the total death toll to seven.

As the community has been reeling from the tragedy, some parents have spoken out about how gun violence is now an “epidemic” in America.

She told CNN: “I am a survivor of a mass shooting. My son and I survived a mass shooting at a park where there was a shooting. We ran for our lives, and this is simply unacceptable.

“Only in the United States can someone survive a mass shooting and then go on vacation to visit someone else and find themselves near another mass shooting.

‘This is an epidemic. Gun violence is an epidemic and it needs to be solved.’

Moments after being interviewed, Beasley broke away and hijacked a Fox News broadcast to continue: “I have come across lobbying in DC. I have met with more than 130 legislators. How does this keep happening?

The Highland Park parade shooting occurred on July 4, 2022 during an Independence Day parade in Illinois. Seven people died and another 48 were injured by bullets or shrapnel.

Sheaun Delluebrooks said he rushed to the scene at The Convent School after his son, who attends Hillsboro High School, sent him a text saying he was in lockdown.

The schools are approximately 1.4 miles, just a five minute drive, from each other. The high school is understood to have been closed following reports of the mass shooting at the elementary school.

Delluebrooks lost her son Akila DaSilva in the 2018 Nashville Waffle House mass shooting, and today she criticized lawmakers for not doing enough to protect children.

She said she understands how the parents of the three child victims feel today, having gone through a similar ordeal with their son.

Delluebrooks told DailyMail.com: ‘We are failing our children.

“Perhaps this could have been prevented if there were laws to protect them.”

I know how these parents feel. You get that call that your family member was shot and ultimately died and it’s devastating.

‘Our governor, our legislator, are failing our children. They are failing us miserably.

Police say the gunman, who has not yet been identified, killed three children and three adults before police shot him dead.
