Nancy Mace says she will NOT visit Jan. 6 inmates with other GOP lawmakers — but demands that all “political violence” such as Antifa and BLM protesters be treated the same way as Capitol rioters
- Supervisory Panel Rep. Nancy Mace will not join her GOP colleagues visiting inmates at a D.C. prison Jan. 6
- Mace said groups like Antifa and Black Lives Matter should be treated similarly to January 6 rioters
- Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene is leading efforts with Oversight Chairman James Comer to assemble a congressional delegation to interview inmates and employees
Nancy Mace will not join some of her GOP colleagues who are planning a prison visit to those incarcerated for their role in the January 6 attack on the Capitol.
James Comer, chairman of the House Oversight Committee, confirmed Thursday that his office is working with Representative Marjorie Taylor Greene to organize a trip to speak with those facing prosecution over riots at the Capitol on Jan. 6, 2021.
Comer, Greene and Louisiana Rep. Clay Higgins wrote a letter to Washington, D.C. Mayor Muriel Bowser, requesting information and documentation on “January 6 inmates,” as well as demanding steps to allow a congressional delegation to visit the prison and interact with inmates and speak to employees.
“I’m not in,” Mace, who sits on the Oversight panel, said in an interview with CNN’s State of the Union Sunday morning.
She said that “members of Antifa and Black Lives Matter” should be treated the same as the rioters involved in the attack on the Capitol.
South Carolina Representative Nancy Mace, a member of the Oversight panel, said she will not join her GOP colleagues to visit inmates held at a D.C. jail for their involvement in the January 6 U.S. Capitol riot.

Rioters from the attack over two years ago are still being held at a DC jail
Greene has previously toured the prison where those charged with crimes related to the attack are held and is now leading the effort to visit a full congressional delegation.
Mace countered Fox News host Tucker Carlson framing the day’s more than 40,000 hours of footage as most people peacefully “toured” the Capitol.
“There was violence that day — you can’t deny that,” Mace said, adding that she wished House Speaker Kevin McCarthy had turned the footage over to multiple media outlets, not just Fox.
However, she also pointed out the hypocrisy in the treatment of rioters in the January 6 attack compared to that of other more left-wing groups.
It was a black day in our history. But so was the summer of 2020,” Mace continued, lamenting, “We saw very few arrests when there were attacks by an organization, members of Antifa and Black Lives Matter.”
“I had my house sprayed two summers ago and no one was held accountable for it,” she said.
“And so we have to make sure – if there is political violence in this country, regardless of your political affiliation, everyone will be treated the same and should be treated the same way.”

Mace said she wants to make sure everyone in prison gets help from Congress if they claim their civil rights have been violated.
“I’ve done a lot of civil rights work over the years as a state legislator and as a member of Congress. In fact, the very first bill I ever filed or participated in my freshman year was with Hakeem Jeffries on a piece of civil rights legislation,” she explained.
“I would tell you, anyone who is in solitary confinement or in prison, regardless of their political affiliation, if they feel their civil rights have been violated, then we, as members of Congress, must help them,” he said. she. “And this is something I’ve worked a lot on over the years and something I respect.”
“Last year, with Jamie Raskin, I was the senior member of the Civil Rights Committee on oversight. That is something we should all care about, the constitutional rights of the citizens of this country.”
