Nearly half of Americans think the Manhattan grand jury’s indictment of Donald Trump is “politically motivated.”

A new survey from ABC News/IPSOS shows that 32 percent of Americans think the grand jury should not have indicted the former president, while 45 percent think the indictment was justified.

Meanwhile, the parties are a long way from questioning whether they believe the charges brought against them last week were motivated by political reasons.

Manhattan District Attorney Alvin Bragg investigated Trump’s alleged hush money payment to porn star Stormy Daniels, claiming New York courts were concerned about crimes that could be related to campaign finance violations.

The prosecution’s case convinced the grand jury to indict Trump on several counts. While it remains secret, reports indicate that Trump is facing more than 30 counts related to business fraud.

Trump and his staunchest supporters and allies have repeatedly dismissed the investigation and indictment as a politically motivated task to prevent the former president from winning another four years in the White House in the 2024 election.

According to the poll published on Sunday, a whopping 79 percent of Republicans believe that the impeachment of Trump was motivated by political ends.

However, only 16 percent of Democrats say they agree that the allegations are “politically motivated.”

Still, nearly half of independents — 48 percent — say it was primarily a political move by the Manhattan DA to open the investigation.

Trump will face charges in New York on Tuesday, where charges are expected to be filed, fingerprints taken, and his mugshot taken.

The ex-president boasted that his mug shot will be “the most famous in the history of the world.”

Meanwhile, nearly a third of Americans think Trump should not have been charged — and another 45 percent thought he was rightly charged

Meanwhile, the former president scheduled remarks from his Mar-a-Lago club in Palm Beach, Florida on Tuesday at 8:15 p.m. — indicating he expects to be home the same night after being arrested earlier in the day in the city that he called home for decades.

Trump moved his permanent residence to Florida during his presidency, claiming he no longer felt New York City was consistent with his politics and way of life. He moved himself, former first lady Melania Trump and their son Barron into his estate at his Mar-a-Lago club.

Overall, in the days following the indictment, 50 percent of poll respondents say the allegations are “serious.” Those who agree tend to be women, college-educated, Americans under 30, and Black and Hispanic Americans.
