A piece Season 2 is coming – and for anyone who's been keeping up with the success of the live-action Netflix series, that won't come as a surprise.

There's always a lot of pressure when a classic cultural icon is translated to the screen, and a lot was riding on the streamer's adaptation of Eiichiro Oda's best-selling manga of the same name. Luckily, it was a roaring hit, with longtime fans and newbies alike tuning in to the world's best streaming service to get their fill of devilish fruits. Also based on its critical acclaim, it was only a matter of time before it found a spot on our list of the best Netflix shows.

Considering his *ahem* dominance over the high-flowing seas, A piece's second season was greenlit almost immediately. So while we wait for more information on when we'll see Luffy and his Straw Hats pirate crew again, here's everything we know so far A piece season 2, including speculation about release date, likely cast, story rumors and more.

There is no launch date yet, but Netflix has announced it A piece season 2 in mid-September, ending two weeks of speculation about the show's possible renewal.

A week earlier, on September 8, Marty Adelstein, one of the producers, proposed A piece season 2 was ready to go, but two major Netflix hurdles blocked the way. Fortunately, these issues didn't prove to be detrimental to the second season's cause.

Whereas A piece Season 1 was king of the high seas TV show in early September – it was the most watched show in 84 countries during its opening weekend – Netflix was quick to commission a second season.

So, when does season 2 head to our screens? Speak with Variety, Adelstein claimed the scripts were finished, but Oda later confirmed they were incomplete (see the season 2 announcement in the X post above). Randy Troy, one of the writers of season 2, confirmed Oda's position in early October and revealed that the scripts for the next episode were being worked on.

One Piece Season 2 Cast: Confirmed and Rumors

Full spoilers ahead ahead A piece season 1.

It's fair to assume we'll see the entire Straw Hats Crew again A piece season 2:

  • Iñaki Godoy as Monkey D. Luffy
  • Emily Rudd as Nami
  • Mackenyu as Roronoa Zoro
  • Jacob Romero Gibson as Usopp
  • Taz Skylar as Sanji

Monkey D. Garp (Vincent Regan), who was revealed to be Luffy's grandfather and had tested Luffy to see if he was committed to his dream, will also likely return, as will Buggy the Clown (Jeff Ward), who promised to kill Luffy and rival captain Alvida (Isorelýs Paulino).

In a plot twist, Jamie Lee is Curtis – a huge fan of A piece – took to Instagram to throw her hat in the ring and play the role of Doctor Kureha, who joins the pirate gang as their official medic (a necessity, considering the sheer amount of violent skirmishes they find themselves in).

In response to Curtis's post, showrunner Matthew Owens wrote, “Hope to talk to you soon,” before saying later Deadline: “Right now we're writing for her – we really, really want her to come and play with us”. The season 2 announcement video also seemed to tease this potential star cast, with Oda adding, “As of now, it seems to me that the Straw Hats are in need of a great doctor… we'll see.”

In addition to Doctor Kureha, we can expect other new characters including the fan-favorite talking reindeer Chopper, as well as human characters such as Nico Robin, Franky, Brook, Jinbe and Nefertari Vivi. Finally, Smoker was teased in terms of new antagonists at the end of Season 1 – he was seen burning his two cigars in Luffy's 'most wanted' poster – so it's safe to assume he'll have a role next time too will play.

One Piece Season 2 Story Speculation

Where will Luffy and the Straw Hats sail next? (Image credit: Netflix)

Major spoilers follow A piece season 1, as well as possible spoilers for season 2.

Season 1 concluded with the stretchy Luffy turning his back on the Marines before having an all-powerful showdown with Arlong (freeing Nami's people) and his grandfather. However, when Garp gives in and reveals that he's been testing Luffy this whole time, all seems to be going well in Straw Hat land. With Nami officially joining the Straw Hats crew, the group comes together to head to The Grand Line to find the titular One Piece, which Luffy hopes will fulfill his dream of becoming King of the Pirates.

It happens that not everything is good. After his humiliation at Luffy's hands, Captain Nezumi placed a bounty of 30 million berries on our protagonist's head, and several of the nightmarish characters bent on capturing him – dead or alive – won't refuse a prize of that magnitude. . Expect this manhunt to be a feature story A piece season 2.

Considering season 1 spanned about 90 chapters in Oda's compelling (and seemingly never-ending) manga series, the sequel will likely have a similar breadth. This means we could see the crew landing on an island of giants, as well as battling a gang of bounty hunters looking to dominate the nation of Alabasta. Smoker's arrival also means we can expect the Loguetown story to play a role in Season 2's overarching story, with him also popping up in the Little Garden and Alabasta arcs.

The future of One Piece on Netflix

Let's start with the obvious: given the level of success of its predecessor, this is highly unlikely A piece season 2 will mark the end of the live-action adaptation. With over 1,000 chapters (and counting) in Oda's legendary manga series, there's plenty more source material to mine.

The good news is that we could see it A piece extend over more than ten years. Speak with DeadlineAdelstein and Clements revealed their hopes for the future, with Adelstein saying, “We're hoping for twelve seasons, there's so much material.”

Clements added: “We currently have over 1,080 chapters in the manga. We have plans with Matt Owens about how we would break into multiple seasons, and I think even if we did six seasons, we would probably only use up half of the seasons. chapters of the manga. It really can go on and on.” To which we say: hurrah!
