Sunday’s NYT Strands puzzle is relatively simple, but that doesn’t exactly make it a piece of cake. Very few Strands games are, and you’ll still need your wits to solve it. But don’t despair: I’ve got some tips for you below if you need them.

There shouldn’t be any problems here unless you have no knowledge of gardening. I wouldn’t exactly describe myself as an expert, and yet I solved this Strands puzzle with a minimum of fuss.
I was helped by the word GLOVES that was immediately on the bottom right of the board; that then led to RAKE, and together with the theme clue ‘Tools for the job’ it was clear what was needed. The spangram, YARDWORK, bothered me a bit because it’s not a phrase you hear in Britain, where I live; we would call it gardening. But overall this was one of the easier days for Strands.
