Mayor Eric Adams is planning to house up to 600 migrant households in a large midtown Manhattan facility by next week.

Adams launched plans to open the facility as Texas Governor Greg Abbott began sending busloads of immigrants from Mexico and South America to New York City.

The mayor has requested NYC’s non-profit shelter operators to submit operating plans for the facility by Wednesday, noting it must be capable of housing 600 families and be operational by next Monday.

Meantime, Adams slammed Abbott for using ‘innocent people as political pawns to manufacture a crisis’ and said applauded the Big Apple for ‘stepping up to fix it.’

He also called on President Joe Biden’s Administration, saying NYC needs the ‘federal government’s help,’ including money and technical assistance, to house and provide for the migrants.

The Department of Homeless Services requested facility proposals last week, according to documents reviewed by The New York Post.

The agency has identified an unspecified building for the facility, but have allowed nonprofits to propose their own location as long as it remains in the midtown neighborhood. 

Charities who submit proposals must be ready to start housing families by August 15.

Any selected contractors must be able to provide immigrants with 24/7 support services and Spanish-speaking staffers to aid the residents.

‘The population served by the selected vendor will be families with children, adult couples and individual adults,’ city officials said, noting most of the migrants are coming from Central and South America via the US-Mexico border.

Charities must submit a budget with their proposal, however the city has not indicated a suggested price tag for the project. 

Officials estimated that thousands of migrants have come to the Big Apple in recent months through various means including buses, cars, on airplanes and after transiting through other cities.

The new housing facility would allow city officials to ‘centralize their efforts’ to provide services to the migrants instead of placing them in shelters across the city.

Abbott sent his first busload of migrants to Manhattan last week. Nearly 50 arrived at Port Authority on Friday.

They were greeted and then brought into the custody of non-governmental charity workers. Adams was pictured meeting with the new arrivals at the bus terminal.

Abbott was been shipping migrants from Texas to liberal cities across the US as part of his ploy to raise awareness about the problems with illegal immigration.

‘Because of President Biden’s continued refusal to acknowledge the crisis caused by his open border policies, the State of Texas has had to take unprecedented action to keep our communities safe,’ Abbott told Fox News last week.

‘In addition to Washington, DC, New York City is the ideal destination for these migrants, who can receive the abundance of city services and housing that Mayor Eric Adams has boasted about within the sanctuary city.’

‘I hope he follows through on his promise of welcoming all migrants with open arms so that our overrun and overwhelmed border towns can find relief.’

Adams hit back and accused Abbott of using migrants as ‘political pawns.’

‘@GregAbbott_TX used innocent people as political pawns to manufacture a crisis. New Yorkers are stepping up to fix it — that’s our city’s values,’ Adams tweeted. ‘But we need the federal government’s help — money, technical assistance and more. 

‘Unlike Governor Abbott, New York City will always do our part, and I thank the NGOs, City workers and every day New Yorkers who have proven that today.’ 

Adams has been highly critical of Abbott and his bussing move, calling it ‘anti-American.’

However, the NYC leader also noted of the Biden Administration: ‘It appears that individuals are being sent by the federal government.’
