A controversial MP who made sensational claims against a recently selected candidate and wouldn’t quit has been kicked out of the shadow cabinet of NSW Labor leader Chris Minns.

Bankstown MP Tania Mihailuk used the parliamentary privilege to express her concerns about the integrity of Canterbury-Bankstown Mayor Khal Asfour late Tuesday night.

She linked the potential future Member of Parliament to the disgraced former Minister of Labor and Party Power, Eddie Obeid.

NSW opposition leader Chris Minns said Ms Mihailuk was removed from his shadow cabinet after failing to respond to his terms about using parliamentary privileges to attack colleagues. “She cannot stay if she does not agree to these terms and it seems to me that she cannot agree to the terms at this time”

Mr Minns told 2GB on Friday morning that Ms Mihailuk had been kicked out of the inner circle of the opposition.

He told Ms Mihailuk that she cannot sit in the shadow cabinet as she launches political attacks through parliamentary privilege.

“I haven’t heard from her about those terms, so I’ve reluctantly come to the conclusion that she can’t stay in the shadow cabinet and abide by those terms,” Minns said.

“She can’t stay if she can’t agree to these terms and it seems to me that she can’t agree to the terms at this point.”

Mr Asfour asked the Independent Commission Against Corruption to review Ms Mihailuk’s ‘outrageous and baseless claims’.

“She has used parliamentary privilege to launch a cowardly attack on me and my family and I call on her to provide evidence of any wrongdoing,” he said.

Mr Asfour was recently selected as a potential candidate for the Labor Upper House ticket in the March elections, one of five right-wing Labor candidates.

Ms Mihailuk is one of three Labor MPs in south-west Sydney who are fighting for two seats in the run-up to the election.

Canterbury-Bankstown Mayor Khal Asfour, a potential candidate for NSW’s upper house in the next NSW election, asked the Independent Commission Against Corruption to review Ms Mihailuk’s “outrageous and baseless claims” about him.

Jihad Dib’s seat of Lakemba is abolished and largely absorbed into Bankstown, leading to a triple pre-selection battle for Mrs. Mihailuk’s seat and Guy Zangari’s nearby Fairfield.

Ms Mihailuk was the subject of harassment allegations last month, which she dismissed as ‘an internal sting’.

“There are people who want my seat and people who want me out of politics,” she told 2GB.

Upper house Labor veteran Walt Secord also resigned last month after allegations of bullying.

Labor’s candidates are expected to be finalized after a conference next month.
