Not sure which movie to watch? Leave a comment, we will help you
We love movie recommendations here at Polygon. Whether it’s horror, sci-fi, action, comedy, thrillers or just the best of the year, we always try to introduce readers to new and exciting films that they will love. But now we want to find the perfect movie for you. (That’s you.)
That’s why we regularly have an open thread dedicated to helping you, our dear readers, find the perfect watch. Looking for a science fiction film that makes you think about the wonders (or horrors) of the world? We got you. Want to freshen up world cinema? How about some comfort food? We have you there too.
From 3:30 PM to 5:30 PM EDT, I’ll be answering your questions and making requests about what to watch at home in the comments section below. We previously programmed this weekly, but will move this to monthly as we add more similar open discussions to our publishing calendar. This is also a great place to share what you’ve been watching, if you’d like to talk about it with your fellow Polygon readers! Participation is very welcome, even without questions.
A little about me, your curator for this round: I’m Pete Volk, our senior curatorial editor. I love movies of all shapes and sizes, but my main areas of interest are action movies (especially martial arts), classic Hollywood comedies (shout out to the GOAT, Ernst Lubitsch), and keeping up with new releases from around the world (I have a good for 156 films watched from 2023 and 33 from 2024 so far).
Last week I was on vacation and watched a lot of movies: Everyone but you, Identitya repeat of the Lord of the Rings films, a repeat of Dune before you see it Dune: part two, Argylle, Late Night with the DevilAnd Justice League: Crisis on Infinite Earths – Part One. The LOTR movies, Dune movies and Late Night with the Devil were highlights, but I also enjoyed it Everyone but you and the Justice League movie. On the TV side, I’m done Shogun (excellent) and Fallout (very good!), overtaken Abbott Elementary, Wonderful in the dungeonAnd X Men ’97and watched a few Elsbeth.
Now it’s time to turn it around on you. What would you like to see (or what are you planning to watch) this weekend? Leave a request in the comments and I’ll get back to you between 3:30 PM and 5:30 PM EDT. Details help: let me know what you’re looking for, an idea of your tastes as a viewer, and any other relevant information you’d like to share (such as the streaming services you have access to).
Some examples of good queries from last week:
See you in the comments at 3:30 PM EDT! In the meantime, fire off your requests.
