Shoe, you must be kidding! Northern Illinois Huskies basketball player manages to score a layup despite his shoe falling off in the pile

Northern Illinois’ Kaleb Thornton scored 16 points Tuesday night, but none will have been more memorable than his one-shoe layup in the second half.

With less than two minutes to go and the Huskies leading Central Michigan by 15 at home, Thornton’s teammate Darweshi Hunter stole the ball at half court.

But after missing a shot and going down on the earlier play, Thornton was left shoeless as the fast break unfolded.

Thornton ran to the other end with his shoe still in hand after taking the shot.

In a moment of quick thought, she held her shoe in her hand as she ran to open herself for Hunter.

Thornton then caught the ball with his left hand and placed it with his shoe in his other hand.

“If that’s not a SportsCenter Top 10, I don’t know what is,” the play-by-play announcer said.

That statement turned out to be clairvoyant as the play was a Top 10 ‘Bonus Play’ later that night and was posted on the SportsCenter Twitter account.

NIU won the game 73-54 on a game-high 23 points from David Coit.

The Huskies are now 5-11 on the season after the win.
