Nick Kyrgios has sent his social media followers a very rude message just after undergoing surgery to repair the knee injury that forced him to withdraw from the Australian Open just 24 hours before playing his first match.

The Australian star shocked the tennis world last Monday when he revealed that a torn meniscus and cyst in his knee were so serious that he could not take the court at his home Grand Slam for fear of permanently injuring himself.

The 27-year-old announced that he would be traveling to his hometown of Canberra to have surgery on the joint, sharing the experience with his followers in two posts on Monday.

Kyrgios was a bit nervous ahead of the surgery, if his pre-op Instagram post (pictured) is any help

The green marks on his ‘after’ Instagram post seem to indicate that all went well with the procedure, but the Aussie bad boy doesn’t seem happy to be in hospital.

First, he uploaded a video of himself dressed for surgery with his knee freshly shaved and a healthcare worker in the background, accompanied by the caption ‘It’s time’ and a sweaty frowning emoji.

The second post is a photo of Kyrgios sitting in a hospital bed after the procedure, flashing the middle finger at the camera as he lies back with breathing tubes attached to his nose and eyes closed.

It appears that the operation went well as there are four green marks attached to the photo, which appears to have been taken by Kyrgios’ girlfriend, Costeen Hatzi, who also posted it on her Instagram with the caption “poor baby”.

Kyrgios had previously shared a grisly photo of the fluid that had to be drawn from his knee with a syringe as he tried to get over the injury before withdrawing from the tournament.

The 27-year-old had previously shared a photo of the fluid that had to be drained from his knee with a syringe before his shock decision to withdraw from the Australian Open.

Kyrgios and his physio Will Maher (pictured together last Monday) used the star’s charity match against Novak Djokovic as a test of whether his knee could withstand two weeks of punishment at the Open.

The star’s girlfriend Costteen Hatzi (pictured together) also shared Kyrgios’ post-op photo, accompanied by the caption “poor baby”.

He and his physio Will Maher made the decision not to play in the Open just hours after he had a workout with doubles partner Thanasi Kokkinakis before the shock announcement.

A routine MRI revealed the damage after Kyrgios suffered discomfort, and he and Maher decided to use their charity match against Novak Djokovic as a test of whether his knee would withstand two weeks of punishment at Melbourne Park.

“There is a parameniscal cyst growing on his left meniscus, which is the result of a small tear in his lateral meniscus,” Maher explained.

Even at that stage, it was worth persevering to see if we could do something to get him back on the court.

“To Nick’s credit, he tried everything, to the point that even last week he underwent a procedure called fenestration and drainage where they use a syringe to try to drain the cyst, which Nick has some pretty gruesome photos of.” .

Kyrgios swore he would make a full recovery from the injury shortly after the news broke that he would not be courting at the Grand Slam.
