Newcastle star Sandro Tonali spotted in Wetherspoons after shining on Premier League debut

Night on the Toonali, Sandro? Newcastle’s new £52m Italian midfielder pictured in Wetherspoons – having booked a table – after shining on his Premier League debut

Sandro Tonali, Newcastle’s new £52 million signing, has apparently wasted no time in sampling some of the city’s nightlife – by hitting up a local Wetherspoons pub.

The Italian midfielder, who shone on his Premier League debut for the Toon in Saturday’s 5-1 win over Aston Villa, was photographed at The Job Bulman pub in Gosforth.

There was a lot of excitement on social media after a fan posted a selfie with Tonali in the pub and also a photo of the table reservation in the star’s name.

Newcastle fans joked they’d be happy to buy him a Moretti beer via the Wetherspoons app and also wondered if his teammates had stitched him up after asking for restaurant recommendations.

Many contrasted the Spoons experience with the fine dining Tonali was probably used to while at former club AC Milan, but he looked happy enough to be there.

Tonali, Newcastle’s headliner this summer as he became the most expensive Italian player of all time, made an impressive start at St James’ Park on Saturday night.

The 23-year-old opened the scoring after six minutes, with further goals from Alexander Isak (two), Callum Wilson and Harvey Barnes ensuring the perfect start to the campaign.

“It was great, the first real game,” he said Sky Sports Italy after the win.

“I let myself go, we really enjoyed it, especially because the game went so well, just as we prepared it. It was impossible not to enjoy today.

It’s one thing to dream, but another to experience it. Reality is different. I’m happy with how it went, now I’m going to go home, relax and rest, then maybe I’ll realize what happened.’

Tonali added: “It’s a very different reality to Milan and everything has to change, including you to some extent. You don’t do the same things you did before, you don’t meet the same friends you had.

“It’s a very different lifestyle, but I will always remain professional. I felt the warmth of the fans, they cheered me on from the start. When I talked to the coach (Eddie Howe) after the game, I realized how happy he was and how much he loves me.”

Newcastle head to Treble winners Manchester City on Saturday night for their second league assignment of the season.
