New York Jets star Xavier Newman rushed to hospital after horror injury as he leaves game on stretcher

New York Jets offensive lineman Xavier Newman has been rushed to the hospital after suffering a serious neck injury during their game against the Pittsburgh Steelers.

Newman fell awkwardly after taking a heavy hit midway through the third quarter and was initially unable to move his limbs as he lay on the turf in pain.

When an Aaron Rodgers pass was intercepted by the Steelers, the 25-year-old took the blow and stumbled backwards trying to find his balance, but then fell and landed heavily on the back of his neck.

After medics rushed onto the pitch, he left the match on a stretcher and quickly made his way to hospital in terrifying scenes.

NBC’s Melissa Stark confirmed that Newman was able to squeeze a trainer’s hand on the way to the hospital after regaining movement in his limbs in a positive update.

The former Tennessee Titans star, who moved to New York in October 2023, played in Pittsburgh for the injured Alijah Vera-Tucker.
