New poll reveals if Trump has seen a boost over Biden since shooting

By Sarah Ewall-Wice, senior U.S. political reporter in Milwaukee:

Democrats held a news conference in Milwaukee on Wednesday, where they criticized the current Republican Party convention and Donald Trump’s choice of J.D. Vance as his running mate, focusing in particular on the Ohio senator’s anti-abortion stance.

Minnesota Governor Tim Walz, Biden’s deputy campaign manager Quentin Fulks and Texas Congresswoman Veronica Escobar were joined by Amanda Zurawski, a woman who nearly died when she couldn’t get an abortion. When she learned her desired pregnancy wasn’t viable, she was told to wait. She was struggling with serious health issues.

“I am one of many women in our country whose lives have been endangered by Donald Trump and J.D. Vance’s anti-reproductive freedom agenda,” Zurawski said. “We have been robbed of our freedom. I am just one of those women.”

Biden’s campaign has been dogged since the debate by concerns about President Biden’s fitness to serve in office, with some Democratic lawmakers even calling for the president’s resignation.

But Biden’s campaign pushed back, saying it would remain committed to the issues like abortion that have so united Democrats since Roe v. Wade was thrown out.

“A lot of women go through this,” Fulks said. “Our campaign is going to continue to talk about the issues.”
